In this episode, I sit down with Jessica Frew, life coach, author, and bold decision maker, to talk about her remarkable journey through betrayal, healing, and self-rediscovery.Jessica shares the deeply personal story of her first marriage and the life-altering discovery that her husband was gay and had an affair with a man. Episode 53: Leaving Mormonism Part 2

Leaving Mormonism, Part 2: Marriage, Motherhood, and Reclaiming Our BodiesIn Part 2 of our conversation on leaving Mormonism, I’m joined again by my sister, Sharon Johnson, as we go deeper into what it actually looked like to unravel our beliefs—and rebuild our lives—from the inside out.We talk honestly about our past and present views on marriage, motherhood, and our roles as wives, and how much of who we thought we were was shaped by obedience, fear, and the constant sense of being watched… and corrected. We share what surprised us most after leaving:Realizing how sacred garments kept us hidden, disconnected from our bodies, and numb to ourselvesHow we lived feeling like children who were always in trouble, never quite trusted to make our own decisionsThe deep conditioning of not trusting our own minds—because we were taught they could be hijacked and deceivedThe disorienting realization that many things we were taught were “bad”… actually aren’t bad at allAnd the strange, sometimes funny, sometimes painful experience of learning how to be normal adults—like not knowing how to act at a bar, or navigating everyday things that were once forbiddenThis episode isn’t about bashing a religion. It’s about waking up. About grieving what we lost, questioning what we were taught, and slowly learning how to trust ourselves—our bodies, our instincts, our desires—again. If you’ve ever felt disconnected from yourself, afraid of your own thoughts, or unsure how to live outside the rules you were given… this conversation is for you. You’re not broken. You were trained not to trust yourself. And you can learn how to come home.

Discovering Yourself through Massive Transformations with Author Kelly Barnhill

Join us sisters, Sharon Johnson and Marcella Hill, as we chat with author Kelly Barnhill about massive life transformations and how to survive and thrive after the unexpected happens. What happens when large parts of how we define ourselves go missing? If you are a writer and can no longer write, who are you? If you are a wife and no longer a wife, who are you? If your body is failing you, who are you? We discuss the power of anger and how to use it. The healing magic of radical acceptance and curiosity. Kelly reads one of my favorite passages from the book that displays how I was feeling in my own body during the beginning of Perimenopause. "It's just too damn small in here!" She is a former teacher, former bartender, former waitress, former activist, former park ranger, former secretary, former janitor and former church-guitar-player. The sum of these experiences have prepared her for exactly nothing – save for the telling of stories, which she has been doing quite happily for some time now. She received the Newbery Medal in 2017, as well as fellowships from the Jerome Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the McKnight Foundation. She is the winner of the World Fantasy Award, the Parents Choice Gold Award, the Texas Library Association Bluebonnet, and a Charlotte Huck Honor. She also was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award, the Andre Norton Award and the PEN/USA literary prize. She has been on the New York Times bestseller list for a bunch of weeks now, as well as the Indie Besteller list.  She is the author of the novels THE GIRL WHO DRANK THE MOON, THE WITCH’S BOY, IRON HEARTED VIOLET and THE MOSTLY TRUE STORY OF JACK, as well as the novella, “The Unlicensed Magician”.  Grab a cozy blanket, snuggle up and enjoy being read to and listening to a story that will inspire you to use your creativity to turn rage into art that can inspire change. Rage Becomes Her with author Soraya Chemaly

Women are not allowed to be angry. We don't know how to be angry. Yet, our society has created enraged women. I discuss RAGE with the author of Rage Becomes Her, Soraya Chemaly. Soraya Chemaly is an award-winning writer and media critic whose writing appears regularly in national and international media including The Atlantic, The Nation, Verge, Quartz, TIME, Salon, The Guardian and The New Statesman.  Her book was part of the beginning of my awakening to realize how much work there is still to be done for women to live in a world where we feel safe. Why is anger allowed for boys but not girls? How can we teach girls to feel and use their anger? Where is this anger coming from? What to do with our anger? Hemorrhoid Surgery & Beautify Your Butt

I am asking all the uncomfortable questions about our BUTTS! I just had hemorrhoid surgery and I want to know everything I can to avoid going through that again. More than 50% of humans are living with the discomfort of hemorrhoids and we are all too embarrassed to talk about it. We don't know where to go for help and we don't even know who to ask or how to ask about it. Let's talk about what causes all the pain. But also how to make it pretty. We have a new vibrance for life after 40, we are getting crazy in the bedroom, or we are newly on the market after a divorce and we are done putting up with all the pain of assholes. Dr. Beth A. What are Hormone Therapy Pellets?

Dr. Melissa Loseke tells us EVERYTHING about Hormone Therapy Pellets. Hormone Therapy pellets saved my life. I didn't know there was so much controversary around them until I shared on social media? I believe women deserve to know the truth and make the best decisions for their bodies without the unnecessary fear. If pellets saved my life along with 1000's of others, then women deserve to know they are an option. I ask Melissa all the questions: What are pellets? Are they safe? What to expect? What are the side effects? How fast do they work? Why do some doctors say to stay away from pellets? Dr. Loseke is on the advisory board for Joi Women's Wellness one of the Wake Her Up Communities favorite telehealth providers. She also has her own practice in Omaha Nebraska. Dr. Loseke is an innovator in medicine and a dedicated physician specializing in anti-aging and regenerative medicine, peptide therapy, cellular repair and optimization, sports medicine, tissue, and joint repair. She is widely considered an expert of women’s and men’s hormonal health, sexual health, aesthetics, and overall wellness. [email protected]   (531) 721-2545   From the time she was just a little girl growing up, she knew exactly who she wanted to be, a Doctor. “I vividly remember my passion for wanting to help and heal people. That passion today burns bright, if not brighter  as it did as a three year-old girl growing up.  Raised in the country, in small town Columbus, Nebraska, that’s where my roots and values of hard work and serving others were instilled.” Those values carried with her through her life putting herself through college and medical school, acheiving her life long dream of practicing medicine.  Dr. Loseke graduated in 2002 from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She completed her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University in May of 2006.  She completed internship and partial anesthesiology residency at Des Peres Hospital in January, 2008. What the hell is MEDITATION and why should I do it?

Dr. Susan Taylor joins me in talking about meditation and how it changes EVERYTHING! I thought that praying was meditating. I thought that being calm and doing yoga was meditating. I thought calmly pondering was meditating. When I finally learned to go beyond my thoughts, I found myself. A version of me that exists beyond thought, beyond my body, beyond money, relationships, titles, all of it! I existed doing and thinking nothing. That changed EVERYTHING! Imagine getting up each day with the confidence and understanding to navigate the ups and downs with calm and focus.  Where you know and trust  yourself to direct your choices and actions without  concern.  Dr Susan Taylor’s mission is to empower women in individual and small groups sessions who desire to tap into their innate healing ability to support vibrant aging and vitality. For more than 30 years, nationally and internationally, she has been teaching ancient wisdom and modern science to deconstruct the healing code supporting vibrant aging and longevity. Taylor developed the widely acclaimed Meditation Specialist Training, which provides a unique skills-building competency platform that leads to certification for leaders in their fields. Her long career began at Columbia University Medical School of Nutritional Sciences, where her master’s degree work became the basis for a clinical nutrition practice specializing in the nutrient factors that affect psychological function. Through client and workshop sessions, she concentrated on resolving the physical, emotional and psychological issues related to diet. She later earned a PhD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where she conducted research in Nutritional Biochemistry that appeared in The American Journal of Physiology, Analytical Biochemistry and Clinica Chimica Acta. During the past decade, she established the Center for Meditation Science, which provides programs internationally to health care practitioners, teachers and business professionals. Dr. Taylor has authored several scientific papers as well as popular publications that include: Return to Radiance, Feeling Good Matters: The Yoga of Mind, Medicine, and Healing, The Vital Energy Program, Sexual Radiance, and The Healing Power of Meditation CD series.
