Federal prosecutors in Kansas City and Jefferson City say their office has filed charges, secured pleas and sentences and obtained civil judgments against 15 people involving more than $60-million in actual or intended losses as part of a national enforcement effort led by the Justice Department and other agencies targeting fraud in the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Columbia/Boone County health officials say a Harrisburg woman who makes home-cooked breakfasts for the community at no charge at her home is violating the food code. The Goldwater Institute disagrees with that and says the federal and Missouri constitutions protect Kathy Kite’s right to host farmers and others in her home. Columbia/Boone County Health Department spokesperson Austin Krohn tells 939 the Eagle that Kite is in violation of the food code which states “A person shall not operate a food establishment without a valid permit to operate issued by the regulatory authority.” Harrisburg resident Dewayne Southerland is one of the residents who gets coffee and food at Kathy's home. A congressman from southern Missouri is the powerful chair of the U.S. House Ways and Means committee in Washington. U.S. Rep. Jason Smith (R-Salem) joined 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Misssouri" live this morning from his southeast Missouri district, telling listeners that he's thrilled to be speaking to constituents and hearing their concerns. Congressman Smith says he's hearing a lot from voters about affordability and says the cost of fuel, food and fertilizer is a big deal in his southeast Missouri district. Jefferson City Republican Jake Vogel won Tuesday's six-way GOP primary for a mid-Missouri Senate seat with 27 percent of the vote. The district includes four counties: Cole, Miller, Morgan and Camden. Missouri’s GOP governor touts a proposed proposed constitutional amendment that would phase out of the individual state income tax and authorize the expansion of sales and use taxes.
