The war in Iran is very unpopular here in the United States. Like historically unpopular. And I know this is quickly written off as a partisan issue but it’s not, at least not anymore. Iranian missiles have struck a US base in Jordan for at least the second time this week amid reports of multiple US casualties. As of now, we have no reports from US Central Command or the Pentagon. I wouldn’t read much into that. Based on FIRMS data, it appears the firefighting effort may still be ongoing so any casualty notifications would be premature before the situation there is under control. So it looks like we’re back at war with Iran. Or maybe more specifically, we’re in a war over the Strait of Hormuz. In just the past few days the US has struck around 300 targets and Iran has fired as many as 500 drones and missiles at US and allied locations in the region. New intel suggests that Putin is relocating air defense systems from around the country to Moscow. In other words, Putin and the Moscow elite will be better protected at the expense of the soldiers at the front and the overall Russian economy. If this is accurate, it’s hard to overstate it’s significance. The problem Russia faces is that every day, they have to protect a larger area with fewer assets. And not everything can be a priority which means quite a few areas are going to become even more vulnerable to Ukrainian strikes. According to Reuters, Russia one of the world’s largest oil exporters, is set to import fuel this month as Ukraine continues to burn their refineries across the country. There’s a bit of a snowball effect playing out right now that Russia is having a hard time stopping. A new leak purports to show the text of the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding and it's not great. From this document, which US officials have not yet commented on, it appears that Iran's negotiating position has increased while ours decreased throughout the war. In comparing terms before the beginning of hostilities to this document, there a number of areas where Iran gets relief but significant US demands are left unaddressed.
