It's a Deal: UAW, Fiat Chrysler Reach Tentative Contract Agreement
It’s up to the people who work in Fiat Chrysler factories to approve a new four-year contract. The United Auto Workers and the automaker say the tentative agreement will address health care costs. Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says it will also deal with the two-tiered wage system that pays newer workers a lower rate. “I think the team has crafted what I consider to be a very carefully thought-through process whereby that issue will go away, that it will go away over time," Marchionne said at a news conference with UAW President Dennis Williams in Detroit. The contract is expected to set the pattern for new agreements with General Motors and Ford. UAW leaders from around the country will be coming to Detroit to review the details before recommending it to the rank-and-file.
