Creation Moments on Oneplace.com - Birds Helping Birds
Altruism - helping one another – is a real puzzle to those who explain the world of living things in terms of materialistic evolution. Evolution is supposed to work on the selfish survival-of-the-fittest principle so there should be no reason for any creature, including man, to develop a helping attitude. In fact, there is no way to explain how the genetic code could possibly develop and pass on a trait such as altruism.Researchers have studied a bird called the white-fronted African bee-eater. Members of this species help each other, sometimes even at the sacrifice of their own life. For example, one bird will face a spitting cobra to defend another and scientists have been puzzled to know how this altruistic trait can possibly be passed on when it often results in death. Another common altruistic habit of the ‘African bee-eater is that one female will put off starting her own family to help another bee-eater raise her young. Some argue that such behaviour is limited to birds that are related. But they admit that even adopted orphaned bee-eaters will help their adopted parents in this way. While it is often denied, the theory of evolution has yet to adequately explain altruism. Altruism is a demonstration of that commandment given by our Creator to “love our neighbour.”Luke 10:33-34"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was. And when he saw him he had compassion on him, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him."Prayer: Dear God, I ask that You would help me so that I would not adopt the selfish and cold behavior of so many in today's world. Let my life be an example that draws others to You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.Ref: Kathy A. Fackelmann, “Avian Altruism,” Science News, Vol.135. Answers with Ken Ham - Jesus Is Alive
This is Ken Ham, the CEO of the ministry behind the Answers Bible Curriculum. Yesterday we learned that the Bible’s infallible proofs of Christ’s resurrection are his appearances afterward. Some of his followers saw the resurrected Savior on at least ten occasions before he ascended to heaven. And they were willing to die to proclaim it. Now, Christ didn’t just appear before people. His followers worshipped him and clung to his feet. Christ showed them the scars on his hands, feet, and side, and he even invited Thomas to touch them. He also ate with the disciples and taught them. The Apostle Paul tells us that Christ appeared to over 500 people at one time. Yes, Jesus really did rise from the dead. Share Life Today - The Atmosphere of a Church
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today. I was speaking with Rey Bechayda, the National Director of Evangelism Explosion in the Philippines, and he shared something really encouraging. He said: “We were really amazed with what God is doing now in the Philippines... But today, in the past three years, we’ve seen changes in the atmosphere of churches.” I love that phrase, “changes in the atmosphere of churches.” You know, when people begin sharing their faith again, churches come alive. Why? Because evangelism isn’t just a program. It’s part of following Jesus and discipling others to follow Him too. If you want to see your church’s culture change, start learning to share your faith and disciple others how they can too. And then watch what God does as your church activates as a loving body of Christ that shares the Gospel with your community. If you need help getting started in sharing your faith, we have resources for you. For those and to get involved with seeing the Gospel go to nations like the Philippines, visit ShareLife.Today.

Max Lucado Daily Devotional - Closet Prayers
Listen to Today's Devotion Religious leaders loved to make theater out of their prayers. The show nauseated Jesus. In Matthew 6:6 he said, “When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who cannot be seen. Your Father can see what is done in secret, and he will reward you.” The words surely stunned Jesus’ audience. The people were simple farmers and stonemasons. They couldn’t enter the temple, but they could enter their closets. The point? He’s low on fancy, high on accessibility. You needn’t woo him with location or wow him with eloquence. It’s the power of a simple prayer. Join me every day for four weeks to pray four minutes. A simple prayer. Then get ready to connect with God like never before. The Christian Working Woman - The Idol of Politics – 3
Presented by Lauren Stibgen From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers these things ought to not be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water (James 3:10-12). These verses in James 3 can apply to all the words we speak. Have you excused your words about politics and think they don’t matter? Have you shared something on social media that is less than pleasant or something that incites a heated discussion? What about name calling and labeling of people? Your words can be an indication that politics have become an idol. While you may not be doing this at work, your personal life is far less hidden than it was in the past with the pervasive online presence most people have. In Matthew chapter 5, Jesus calls us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. This includes candidates and members of an opposing political view. With fellow believers the conversations become even more divisive as we start to judge someone’s level of justification and commitment to their faith based on who they voted for. You have heard this before. So and so cannot be saved if they voted for X. Only God can judge the intentions of someone. We cannot and should not. And God’s Word reminds us not to judge, or we will be judged in return (Matthew 7:1-2). How can you self-examine first? How can you remove the log in your own eye before you look at the speck in your brother’s (Matthew 7:3-5)? Believer or not, those that are on the opposing side of your views are also made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Jesus calls us to love our enemies. This includes candidates and members of an opposing political view. Think about those around you at work who are believers in Jesus. Would your words reflect your calling as an ambassador of Christ? Remember, our ultimate goal is to make disciples—not of candidates but of Christ! What can we do instead? Remembering sometimes the most peaceful thing we can do is be silent and let God fight our battles. We can pray for those who persecute us. We can choose to see the best in others.

A Word With You - Leaving No One Behind - #10288
Ted’s an ex-Marine. I guess once a Marine, always a Marine. Right? You know — halls of Montezuma, shores of Tripoli, and semper fi. Since his days in the Corps, Ted’s gone on to become very successful in business, but he keeps getting invited back to talk to Marine recruits as an inspirational speaker. And in the process, he tells them about a rescuer who came for him in the Marines and saved him — Jesus Christ. And I love what he tells them — “One thing about Marines — we always go back for our own, and that’s why I’m here today. I’m going back for my own.” I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about “Leaving No One Behind.” Those Marines really listen to Ted, because he’s one of their own. That’s sort of a law of life, isn’t it? We tend to listen to our own kind; maybe when we would listen to no one else. Especially when it comes to the rescuer that my friend tells the Marines about. More and more, people aren’t going to listen to some “Christian professional” tell them about Jesus. No, even though their lives depend on understanding Jesus. They’re not likely to go to one of those meetings that we have. It’s probably going to have to be one of their own…like you. Jesus understood that approach to rescuing spiritually dying people. He used that approach Himself in our word for today from the Word of God. Here’s the deal: Jesus has gone into Samaria to reach the Samaritans, and since the Jews and Samaritans basically couldn’t stand each other, how is this Jewish rabbi going to reach them? He’s going to send one of their own to go back and get her own — even though she is probably known for her immorality, her relationships with many men, her string of marriages and divorces. First, she meets Jesus at a well where she discovers who He really is. Then in John 4, beginning with verse 28, the Bible says, “Leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?’ They came out of the town and made their way toward Him…Many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony…” Well, they listened to her when she talked about Jesus because she was one of their own. That’s what makes you so eternally important to your coworkers, your fellow students, your neighbors, your teammates — you’re one of them. They’ll be more likely to listen to you talking about a personal relationship with Jesus than to any preacher or evangelist or radio or TV guy. Well, you may say, “but I’m not trained…I’ve got a lot of problems…I don’t know enough.” Excuse me, but have you thought about the one Jesus sent as His ambassador to the Samaritans? See, what qualifies you is two things: you’ve met Jesus, and you’re one of them. He’s placed you where you are not just to get grades or get paid or get comfy. He’s put you there to take some of those people to heaven with you! So, how are you doing? The best one to reach a lost farmer is another farmer…the best one to reach a lost mom is another mom. a lost teacher, a teacher. How about a lost businessman? It will take a businessman, and so on. But so many people die without ever knowing what Jesus could have done for them. They die without a chance at heaven — because the Christian close to them never told what they knew. That’s a death sentence by silence. You don’t have to tell them about Christianity, about church, about your religion or a list of Christian beliefs. Just do what the Samaritan woman did — stick to Jesus. She just said, “Come, see a Man!” But don’t take them to a well — take them to the Cross and show them how much Jesus loves them. Their best hope is you, because you are already there. Of all the New Year’s resolutions you could make, could there be a better one than to say, “I will finally tell the lost peo

Life Issues - Expanded Safe Haven
Tennessee has expanded its Safe Haven Law, giving parents in crisis more places where they can safely surrender a newborn without facing criminal charges. Governor Bill Lee recently signed legislation adding 24-hour ambulance stations to the list of approved surrender locations. Under Tennessee law, an unharmed infant can be surrendered within 45 days of birth at designated facilities, including hospitals, fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and other approved sites. These laws make it easier for parents facing difficult circumstances to find help and prevent unsafe infant abandonment.

Keys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - The Good Leader
Read: Psalm 61:1-8 Reid sighed happily at the sound of a mountain stream trickling nearby. “I sure love hiking!” he said. “Me too!” said his twin sister, Nicole. “It’s so pretty out here today!” “Yeah,” said Reid. “I’m so glad school is over for the summer so we can do this again!” “Hey, you two, don’t get too far ahead!” Dad called from further down the mountain. The twins decided to rest and wait for their parents. “Hey, look at that,” Nicole said, pointing to a nearby tree branch. “What’s going on up here?” Mom asked as she and Dad came up the path and sat down on a log. “There’s a trail of ants walking on that branch,” said Reid. Nicole squinted to get a better look. “Why are they all following that ant in front? Why don’t they just walk wherever they want to?” “They’re following the leader,” Dad explained. “He’s probably leading them to some food he discovered.” He thought for a moment. “We’re a lot like ants.” Reid and Nicole looked at each other, confused. “How are we like ants?” Reid asked. “Well,” said Dad, “these ants are trusting their leader to guide them safely, and they go wherever he goes. We need to make sure we’re following our leader with the same trust and obedience.” “You’re talking about Jesus, aren’t you?” said Nicole. “That’s right!” said Dad. “He’s our leader. He died for our sins and rose from the dead to save us, and we need to have faith in Him and follow and obey Him in everything we do.” Mom nodded. “We might be tempted to follow people or chase after things that can lead us away from God and what He tells us in the Bible. But Jesus is the only right path for our lives.” “I don’t want to follow the wrong crowd,” Reid said. “Me neither,” said Nicole. “I want to follow Jesus!” Mom beamed. “I’m very glad to hear you say that.” She stood up. “Let’s finish this hike so we can get some food of our own.” “I know the way to the top,” Reid said, running to the path. “Follow me!” Nicole laughed. “Okay, but only because I know you follow Jesus!” –Elena Ketner How about you? Do you follow Jesus? Do you trust and obey Him? It may seem hard to follow Him when you’re tempted to chase after what the world has to offer or what other people think of you, but Jesus is a good leader who loves you and will lead you on the right path. John 14:6 says He is the way, the truth, and the life. Trust and follow Him. Today's Key Verse: Lead me in the right path, O Lord…Make your way plain for me to follow. Wisdom for the Heart - The Master’s Men Part 1 (Luke 6:12-16)
Share a commentJesus builds a movement without grabbing the obvious power players. No rabbi to cite chapter and verse on command. No scribe to document the moment. No insider with the right family name. When we trace Luke 6, we’re confronted with a Messiah who skips the religious establishment and chooses “dust-covered” learners, men close enough to be marked by his footsteps. We talk through the ancient picture behind discipleship: following so closely behind a master that you wear the dust of your teacher. That image turns Christian discipleship into something concrete and personal, not a label or a hobby. Then Luke pauses on a detail that’s easy to rush past: Jesus spends the entire night in prayer before selecting the Twelve, described with language like a physician keeping an all-night bedside vigil. We unpack what that kind of prayer says about spiritual leadership, pressure, and Jesus’ ongoing intercession for people he already knows completely. From there, two truths sharpen the whole story: Jesus chooses these men not because he needs them, but because they need him, and not because of who they are, but because of who they will become. We look at the surprising mix of backgrounds and personalities, then zoom in on Peter’s slow transformation from unpredictable to steadfast, and Andrew’s quiet faithfulness as the one who keeps bringing people to Jesus. If you’ve ever wondered whether your flaws disqualify you, Luke 6 answers with hope and a next step.Subscribe for more, share this with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a review with one line on what it means to “wear the dust” of Jesus. Max Lucado Daily Devotional - Simple Prayers
Listen to Today's Devotion Prayer really is simple. Resist the urge to complicate it. Don’t take pride in well-crafted prayers. Don’t apologize for incoherent prayers. No games, no cover-up, just be honest. Honest to God. Climb into his lap, tell him everything that is on your heart. Or, tell him nothing at all. Just lift your heart to heaven and declare “Father, Daddy.” Stress, fear, guilt, grief. Demands on all sides. All we can summon is a plaintive, “Oh Father.” If so, that’s enough. Your Heavenly Father will wrap you in his arms. Here’s my challenge for you: every day for four weeks, pray four minutes. Then get ready to connect with God like never before. The Christian Working Woman - The Idol of Politics
Presented by Lauren Stibgen One thing we can all agree on these days is that things feel heavy. There are so many social issues breaking daily on the news, and the headlines can be polarizing. The polarization is most often political. As a believer in Jesus Christ, are you overthinking about politics? Have you made politics an idol? Let’s explore some of the pervasive ways politics can become an idol and how we can turn to the Bible for wisdom. Why would I want to even touch this idol with a proverbial ten-foot pole? Because the real work we do at work matters for the Kingdom. A political candidate or a law will never save someone from sin. Only Jesus can. And living up to the greatest commandment to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves can get very clouded when politics becomes part of our identity—when they become an idol. A woman in one of my professional groups recently shared she was afraid to share her Christian faith because one of the churches in her community had been very outspoken about the local political climate. Being known as a Christian alone had raised so much angst in the community. By the numbers, over 50% of workers expressed concern over the impact of conversations about politics at work, but nearly 40% of U.S. workers have engaged in political discussions at work. Of this group, 60% report these conversations have impacts on productivity.[1] Add to this mix the other matter we care most about, sharing our faith. When these two topics blend, half of your audience will be concerned about the conversation and not in a good way. Can we keep politics in their proper place? Can we engage but still follow Paul’s advice in Romans 12:2 to not conform to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind? Have we conformed to the world so much that we have lost our salt? Do we behave too much like the culture around us? This is not about politics, but it is about how we can check in with ourselves to see if politics have become an idol in our lives. As followers of Jesus, we are called into a dual citizenship. How we represent our heavenly one matters. — [1] CivicScience. (2025, February 11). A Word With You - Let the Coach Place You - #10286
Our local high school football team had the most dramatic turn around I think I’ve ever seen in a high school team. They had only scored in two games the season before. A new coach took over, and the next season they were in the state championship and were on top many years after that! They actually had a coach who molded winners. And I had a son who was coming up in the ranks and would soon be playing football for him. I pointed out to my son this coach’s successes and one of the reasons why he was so successful. See, my son had said to me, “Dad, I want to play," and he told me the position he’d like to play. And I said, “Well, listen. You need to trust that coach, because one of his gifts is knowing what position each guy is going to play best.” Now, this coach would change players’ positions around and that often would meet with great resistance from them. They'd say, “Hey, Coach, I want to be a ______.” They’d fill in the blank with whatever position they thought they should play. And he’d say, “No, you’re going to play this position.” They’d end up being all-conference, all-county, and thanking the coach. So, I told my son to trust the coach for the best position to play. I’m going to tell you the same thing. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about “Let the Coach Place You.” Our word for today from the Word of God begins in John 21:17-19. Jesus is talking to Peter and he says, “’Peter, feed my sheep. I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted, but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.’ Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then He said to him, ‘Follow Me.’” Well, Peter turned and saw John following them. And when Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? But you must follow Me.’” Interesting! Peter seems to be questioning the coach here. He’s questioning, in a sense, the position he’s going to play compared to the position John’s going to play. Now, the Lord has a position on His team that you are created to play, that you’re gifted to play. And He’s saying to you like He said to Peter “Don’t worry about somebody else’s position. You play your assignment.” And each of us has one. We know that from 1 Corinthians 12:6, “There are different kinds of working, but the same God works them in all men. That includes all believers. To each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” Now, first of all, you’ve got to believe He has a position for you to play in His family, in His work on earth. Because it says all believers have it. Secondly, you trust Him to give you the assignment where you can do the most. It may not be the position you wanted to play, like some of the guys on our local football team. Maybe you wanted to be in front and He’s got you working backstage. Maybe you wanted to be backstage and He’s got you working in front. Maybe you wanted to lead and He has you being a follower right now, or you want to follow and He’s pushing you to be a leader. Maybe He’s teaching you to learn to do humble tasks right now. Maybe you want to be doing right now and He’s actually assigned you to be preparing instead. You see, our Coach not only sees your talents, He sees your potential. He created it after all. So don’t chafe if He asks you to play a position that is different from the one you want. He’s the one who wired you, created you, and He has assigned you for a very specific assignment. And He knows where you’ll play the best, and He knows what position will do the most for you and for His Kingdom. So, hang in with the assignment the Coach has given you. You are right now where

Keys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - Peace in the Midst of Noise
Read: Ephesians 4:1-3; Philippians 2:1-4 Lisbeth was shocked at the amount of noise that hit her ears when she stepped into the animal shelter behind her best friend. She had never heard so much barking before. “It’s not always like this,” Jenna said. She had been volunteering for a long time, but this was the first time Lisbeth had come with her and her mom. They walked down a hallway lined with cages, and it seemed like every dog was barking. Lisbeth smiled when she saw one dog just lying in her cage. She didn’t look upset or sick or anything like that; she just looked peaceful, like she really wasn’t bothered by all the noise the other dogs were making. “Do you remember what the Bible says about being peaceful?” Jenna’s mom shouted to be heard above the dogs. “It says we should do our part to live in peace with others, even if the world around us isn’t peaceful. I think Miss Ruby got the message.” She pointed toward the dog Lisbeth had noticed. “But we have something she doesn’t,” Jenna’s mom continued. “Since we belong to Jesus, we have His peace and love in our hearts. That’s what allows us to be truly peaceful.” They spent time playing with the dogs and giving them love, then Lisbeth was dropped off at her house. As she walked up to the door, she could hear shouting. Ever since her mom remarried, the house was constantly noisy. Lisbeth opened the front door. Her older brother was arguing with one of their stepbrothers. Her twin sisters were fighting over a doll. One of her stepsisters was screaming. She covered her ears. There were times when Lisbeth would just join in with everyone else. When everyone else was upset, it was hard not to be mad too. But today she wanted to try something different. Lisbeth walked over to her younger stepbrother and sat down beside him. He wasn’t joining in with all the screaming, but he didn’t look happy either. “Do you want to play a game?” Lisbeth asked. “I’ll play with you.” “Outside?” Darren asked, his eyes wide as he looked around the room. Lisbeth laughed. “Sure.” She wanted to help bring peace to their home, but she didn’t have to stay right in the chaos in order to do that. –Emily Acker How about you? When everyone around you is getting loud and grumpy, do you join in? Or do you try to be the one peaceful person in the room? If you know Jesus as your Savior, you can treat others in a peaceful, loving way, even when tempers flare and no one agrees. Trust Him to help you do what you can to keep the peace. Is there anything you can do—with God’s help—to make your home more peaceful? Today's Key Verse: If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Wisdom for the Heart - The Offspring of Our Union (Romans 7:4)
Share a commentDarkness has a way of making our deepest desires louder and our best sales pitches weaker. We start the conversation with a blunt claim: without the gospel there is no real light, no solid truth, no lasting life, and no dependable hope, only speculation and futility dressed up as confidence. That frame reshapes what we think we’re offering the world and what we’re actually calling people to when we talk about Jesus Christ. From there, we challenge a common habit in modern evangelism, treating Christianity like a personal upgrade: feel better, get your needs met, be happier. Drawing on Martin Lloyd-Jones and Paul’s words in Romans 7:4, we argue that union with Christ is not built on making the unbeliever the center. The purpose is startling and clarifying: we are joined to the risen Bridegroom so that we might bear fruit for God. We walk through what that fruit looks like in Christian discipleship: thankful speech, surrender that dies to self, spiritual maturity through discipline, sacrificial giving that invests in people, and saving truth that multiplies across the world. Then a real-life story drives it home: a hydroplane crash, a replacement van, a breakdown in Connecticut, and a chain of frustrations that turns into an unexpected gospel conversation with a man who thinks he has six months to live. It’s a practical reminder that providence often looks like interruption before it looks like meaning. If you care about the gospel, spiritual growth, and what “bearing fruit for God” actually means on an ordinary Tuesday, listen through to the closing questions. Share Life Today - Persecution in Lebanon
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you’re listening to Share Life Today. As we conclude this week talking about the church globally and how we’re called to go to the nations, I wanted to share a testimony with you from a challenging part of the world. Made up of the former Soviet Union and most of the Middle East, Central Asia is a region where persecution happens almost every day to Christ-followers. And yet, God is moving mightily in these countries. For instance, in a small village in Lebanon, a family heard the Gospel from a team of Christians who knocked on their door. The husband, the wife, and all the children gave their hearts to Christ that day. And the villagers were not pleased and began persecuting them heavily. However, God used these same Christians who led the family to Christ to share with the villagers also, and their minds were changed. So let's be encouraged today to step out ourselves and to share the Gospel. You can learn more about how you can share your faith at ShareLife.Today. That’s ShareLife.Today.

Max Lucado Daily Devotional - Pray Like Children
Listen to Today's Devotion We prayer wimps fear mis-praying. What’s the expected etiquette and dress code of prayer? What if we kneel instead of stand? Jesus’ answer is in Matthew 18:3 when he says, “Become as little children.” Carefree. Joy filled. Playful. Trusting. Curious. Trust more—strut less. God prefers this greeting: “God, you are my Daddy, and I am your child!” It’s hard to show off and call God “Daddy” at the same time. Impossible, in fact. Remember, prayer doesn’t depend on how you pray. The power of prayer depends on the One who hears the prayer. Here’s my challenge for you! Every day for 4 weeks, pray four minutes. Then get ready to connect with God like never before. Read more Before Amen: The Power of a Simple Prayer For more inspirational messages please visit Max Lucado.

The Christian Working Woman - Mistakes to Avoid with Managers – 5
I began this program years ago to encourage and equip Christians to live out their faith on their job. And I’ve been examining the importance of avoiding certain mistakes many make in getting along with their boss. I know it’s not always easy and I know bosses are not perfect. But I also know you will do yourself a great favor to avoid making some of these mistakes. I mentioned small things matter, and good manners is another small thing that can make a difference in how your boss sees you. The simple everyday manners of helping others, letting others go first, thanking people, showing kindness to others—those little things create an impression. Failing to pay attention to them can cause self-inflicted harm to you. This verse sums it up perfectly: For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man (2 Corinthians 8:21). I’ve given you seven mistakes to avoid, but since we all make mistakes, here’s what to do when you have made a mistake: Acknowledge the mistake. Take responsibility and offer to fix the problem if it’s one you can fix. That may be something as simple as a sincere apology, but your willingness to take responsibility will speak volumes to your manager. Move on and do the best possible work you can, avoiding the mistake in the future. Don’t wallow in guilt; put it behind you and learn from the experience. Don’t let the mistake shake your confidence so that you lose your ability to do your work. Remember, everyone makes mistakes sooner or later. Don’t hide behind your mistakes, but don’t hide under your desk either. Show your boss it was a fluke and that will never happen again. Then, make it a matter of prayer. If you are a Christ-follower, you have power through prayer and God’s Spirit to put mistakes behind you and move forward.

A Word With You - Never Home Alone - #10285
I grew up as an only child. My parents took me to most of the places that they went, but I remember one time they left me home by myself. I was home alone. (You know, maybe somebody could make a movie about that someday.) Well, anyway, we lived in this third floor apartment on the south side of Chicago. It was getting very late. I was sitting near the back door waiting and they should have been home by now. I was worried. I remember hearing sirens and I thought, “Oh, no!” Okay, my imagination went crazy; it was taking me all over the place. I was thinking of all the bad things that might have happened to my parents. I was already there and then the sirens came. I was sure the sirens were for my mommy and my daddy, but they weren’t. But the fear I had that night was so great (how about this?) - I still remember it don’t I? I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and I want to have A Word With You today about “Never Home Alone.” Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Romans 8, beginning with verse 37. You probably know this fear of abandonment that I had that night. That's not unique to me, or even to a child. I’m thinking of a friend of ours who struggled her whole life with the fear of abandonment. She was left by her parents a lot because they were in mission work and there were a lot of “goodbyes” and she was always vulnerable to some bad choices because she was always afraid that she’d lose what she loved and what loved her. All right, Romans 8:37, referring to the most dangerous things that could happen to you in your life, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced (boy, here's the best news you might have ever heard) that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future (boy, this has got everything covered!), nor any powers, neither height nor depth (and that's like just in case I've forgotten anything), neither anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.” This is where God promises one unloseable relationship. God created us to anchor ourselves to one relationship. The problem is that every other relationship on earth is losable. I think of the night when my wife was almost dying from hepatitis, and we weren’t sure she’d make it. And I knelt by her bed and I said, “Dear God, please spare her.” And I thank Him that He did spare her life. But that night I almost lost the one relationship I thought would never leave me. She said she would never choose to leave and I would never choose to leave her, but you know what? There come those times when the choice is out of our hands. One day that choice did come and now she’s in Heaven and I’m still here. See, you need a relationship you can’t lose, and you can’t take Jesus away. He will not leave you—ever. He is the unloseable one. Any human love I receive, well, that's a welcome bonus, but my identity is supposed to be knowing Jesus. So, do you know Him? See, life is never secure until you belong to Christ. That begins the day you get your sin erased by putting your faith in what Jesus did when he died on the cross for that sin and then you’re in His arms to stay. Nothing in heaven, nothing on earth, nothing in hell can take you away from Him. You’ve had your sins forgiven. The only thing that will keep you out of God’s heaven is gone because you’ve put your trust in the One who died to remove those sins—Jesus, His One and only Son who’s alive because He walked out of His grave. He can walk into your life today. He said, “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). And you decide whether that relationship ever begins, and you decide when it begins. Let it be today. Tell Him, “Jesus, I’m Yours.” You need to get to our website to find there everything you need to know to be sure you belong

Life Issues - Teen Daughter Approved for Euthanasia
A heartbreaking story out of the Netherlands is raising alarms about euthanasia and assisted suicide. According to reports, Iris Dekker struggled with severe depression and suicidal thoughts for years. By age 16, she had applied for euthanasia under Dutch law, which allows minors to seek death in certain circumstances. After years of waiting for her euthanasia application to be processed, she ultimately chose a different path: voluntarily stopping eating and drinking, a practice known as VSED. She died in hospice just days before her 20th birthday. Many young people today are facing a serious mental health crisis. A society that wants to provide mental healthcare cannot simultaneously suggest that depressed young people should kill themselves. Euthanasia and assisted suicide programs are not compassionate care; they are a way to abandon people in their hour of need.

Keys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - Wrinkle-Free
Read: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 When he got home from school, Jason found his mom in the laundry room. “How was your day?” Mom asked as she looked up from a shirt she was ironing. “Terrible!” said Jason. “I failed a math test and have to take it over again. Then I found out my favorite teacher is moving away. And then I accidentally knocked down the principal’s daughter!” “Knocked her down? How did that happen?” “I came around a corner really fast and ran right into her,” Jason said. “I apologized, but she’s probably still mad.” “I’m sure she knows you didn’t do it on purpose,” Mom said. Jason sighed. “I doubt it. She probably told all her friends what a loser I am.” Jason looked at the shirt Mom was ironing. “That’s my shirt for your cousin’s wedding this weekend, isn’t it?” “That’s right.” The doorbell rang, and Mom handed him the partially ironed shirt. “Here. Why don’t you finish ironing it while I answer the door?” When Mom returned, Jason had just finished pressing the shirt. He held it up. “Look at this,” he said. “It’s wrinkle-free!” Mom nodded. “The heat and pressure of the iron took the wrinkles right out.” She turned off the iron and unplugged it. “Sometimes that’s how God gets the wrinkles out of us too.” “Wrinkles?” Jason rubbed his forehead. “I don’t have wrinkles yet.” Mom laughed. “I’m thinking of wrinkles in the ways we think and act—things like impatience, anger, and self-pity, just to name a few. God sometimes uses the heat and pressure of difficulties in our lives to iron them out.” “So you think God is using the stuff that happened to me today to make me more patient and not feel sorry for myself so I can be wrinkle-free?” “Well, we’ll never be wrinkle-free until we get to heaven—we’ll always have things we struggle with. But He does use the things that happen in our lives—even things we don’t like—to make us more like Jesus and help us love and care for others. And He’s always with us in the troubles we face too.” Jason nodded. “I guess I’d better go study for that math test, huh?” “Yes,” Mom said. “At least you’re getting another chance to iron that out!” –Barabara J. Westberg How about you? Do you ever feel pressured by what’s going on in your life? God sometimes uses difficult circumstances to press the wrinkles out of us. It may be uncomfortable for a while, but He’s doing it to make us more like Jesus. Be patient as He teaches you to trust Him and show His love to others. He promises to be with you as He irons the wrinkles out of your life. Today's key verse: For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV) Today's key thought: Patiently endure difficulties
