Wild Nature Photography Podcast

In this episode, I discuss the remote archipelago of Svalbard as both a wildlife and landscape destination, why it is unlike anywhere else on Earth, and why it might be the last word in remote-location nature photography.Svalbard Spring Light Expedition 2027Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? In this episode, I answer mailbag questions from listeners of the podcast. To make this somewhat easier to follow, I have grouped the questions together into those that are gear related, those that are more craft and field related, post production questions, business and then more personal questions. If you have a question you would like answered in a future mailbag episode, please write to me at [email protected] the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? This is a deeper dive into my thoughts on the winning photographs, where and how they were taken, with what equipment and what my thought process was from capture to the final processed image. In this episode, I am kicking off a new series of deep dive episodes on wildlife species I have been photographing consistently over the last two decades. The purpose of this series is to share my thoughts and experiences photographing various animals in their natural environments around the world; to talk a little about the species, what has worked in photographing them, the time of year, equipment practices, etc. We begin with my favourite animal to photograph: Vulpes lagopus - the Arctic Fox.Arctic Fox PortfolioArctic Survivors Video Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? In this episode, I dive into a discussion on the ideal gloves for cold-weather photography. This podcast is an expanded discussion and deeper dive into the confused world of cold weather gloves that are suitable for photography in frigid climates. I have previously published a fairly extensive blog post and podcast on boots for cold-weather photography. Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? In this episode, I discuss the oft-held and common belief that 'I could make better photographs, if only I had better gear'. In this episode, I review Nick Brandt’s ‘Across this Earth a Shadow Falls’. An iconic, timeless and must-own look at African wildlife photography in warm-toned black-and-white. Back in podcast number #79, I reviewed his fourth book, ‘Inherit the Dust’, and yesterday I reviewed the third book in the series, 'Across the Ravaged Land’, in podcast number #159. This completes the review of the books I currently own by him.Support the showWild Nature Photo TravelPhotography Workshops and Expeditions around the Worldwww.wildnaturephototravel.comSupport the Show and fellow Nature Photographer: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/JoshuaHolko/membershipFind us on Social MediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Joshuaholko/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HolkoJoshuaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshuaholko/Need to Contact us? In this episode, I review Nick Brandt's 'Across the Ravaged Land'. A hard-hitting look at African wildlife photography through the lens of what humanity is doing to the planet. Back in podcast number #79, I reviewed his fourth book, 'Inherit the Dust'. 'Across the Ravaged Land' forms part of his trilogy series 'A Shadow Falls', 'On this Earth' and 'Across the Ravaged Land'. In this episode, I review the book 'Laponia Majestic Stillness' by Erlend and Orsolya Haarberg. This is a book I have a love/hate relationship with.  Whilst I am a big fan of these two photographers' work, I find this book disappointing, with poor design and paper choice that ultimately leave me conflicted and confused. In this episode, I discuss how white your snow should be on a print. There’s a lot of high-key photography in which the majority of the image is pure white. Snow, without texture and tone in a print, will appear pure white and can often look unreal. Meanwhile, the actual scene may have been overcast, rendering the snow greyer or bluer. Wildlife paintings often render snow as grey or blue.
