Sarah and Xander from Earlston High came into Wired to talk about their school’s media group which takes place on Monday lunchtimes. They recently submitted an application to Youth Chex which was successful. This means the group can buy Zoom recorders to interview pupils and staff about school news. On the other hand Corran did his work experience in Edinburgh with the Scottish Parliament. Corran talks about his opportunity and how you can make the most out of your work experience.

Wired Interview: Amnesty Protest Song Winners 'Unheard Voices'
Unheard Voices dropped into the Wired studio to talk about their winning Amnesty International protest song. The group won the Borders round of the competition with their song ‘Outspoken’. Joe Bispham (13) and Cameron Rendall Reid (14) joined the Wired team but the group also includes Aaron Lee (14) and Lauren Batey (12). The group won £500 for their first ever song which they performed at the County Hotel on Saturday, June 7th 2014. Well done Unheard Voices from the Wired Team.

Wired Special Feature : Get on radio - Join the Wired team
Wired is broadcast every Saturday night and is the only show created by young people for young people on Scottish commercial radio. We’re currently looking for young people (aged S3 to 18) to join our award winning team. You will be placed either at Radio Borders or out in the community as part of your school, youth group or club. You don’t need any previous experience but you must be keen to learn about radio presenting, interviewing, editing, production, reporting and social media. Wired is a lot of fun and gives young people opportunities to make new friends and learn some great skills. Training takes place in the summer holidays and new members will join the team in the autumn term. Listening to previous Wired features online will give you an idea of what is involved; search for ‘Wired Audioboo’. The Jedburgh Youth Summit took place in May 2014. Young representatives from schools around the town gathered to have their say on future youth activities including a new youth club. The event included a youth media team who interviewed the participants about their views. Young broadcasters Stephen and Aaron joined the Wired team to explain more.

Wired on Radio Borders Interview: The Respectful Relationships Group from Galashiels Academy
Chloe, Carolina and Katie from the Galashiels Academy Respectful Relationships Group dropped into Wired to tell us all about their amazing work. The Respectful Relationships Group is made up of young people from S1 to S6. They all have at least one thing in common; the desire to make their school a more welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors. Over the last several months the group, which consists of around 30 young people, have been working hard to bring respectful relationships to the front of everyone's minds. They have created a range of colourful posters which promote consideration and kindness. Members also raise money for anti bullying charities through fundraising events like bake sales. Their latest project has been to produce a moving audio production highlighting what respect means to each member of the group. The young people's talented efforts have been praised by teaching staff and their production will now be used to promote respectful relationships throughout school. You can hear the full interview, including their audio production, right here. The music accompanying the piece is called 'Carry Me Through The Trees' and was composed and played by Alexander Cowan.

Wired's Liam Wheelan was at the Galashiels Academy Wider Achievement Awards to interview some of the winners, guests and teachers. The Wider Achievement Awards recognise pupil's commitments to their community and school as well as their talents and personal qualities. As a pupil of Galashiels Academy Liam was also at the ceremony to collect an award for his impressive contribution to the community through his role with Wired. In his report Liam catches up with Alice, Carly and Cara who are in the pre production stages of their film about school memories. He chats to Euan Nelson about playing the bagpipes and Ally McGilvray of the Border Telegraph talks about the importance of recognising young people's wider achievements. Finally Depute Mrs Anderson explains what a success the event has been.
