Realizing the promise of precision oncology: a conversation with Andrea Stevens and Clare Jones
When we talk about precision oncology, we usually talk about breakthroughs. But behind every advancement in targeted therapies and genomic profiling lies a quieter reality: Most patients in the world still can’t reliably access the tests that unlock these headline treatments. This week on Within Reach, Clare Jones and Andrea Stevens expose the real bottlenecks - cost and reimbursement, fragmented infrastructure, uneven education, and policy blind spots - and explain why single-gene testing is no longer good enough. Together, they map out what it will take to move from isolated success stories, to a future where tailored cancer care is the standard, not the exception. 🔗 Connect with usClare Jones: https://www.linkedin.com/in/clarejonesprmamarketaccess/Andrea Stevens: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrea-l-stevens-phd/Precision Cancer Consortium: https://www.precisioncancerconsortium.com/Within Reach: https://withinreach.avalerehealth.com/ Avalere Health: https://avalerehealth.com/https://www.linkedin.com/company/avalerehealth/Evan Young: https://www.linkedin.com/in/evan-young-sxp/

Welcome to Within Reach
If you distil the fundamental idea of health care down to its purest, most unadulterated form, the essence of it just seems so simple. When someone is sick, they should get the care that they need. But there's a heartbreaking reality to healthcare, and cancer in particular. The messy and upsetting truth is that the number of people who can get the best care — if we can even agree on what that means, which we can't — is fractional. Untold numbers of people can't even get decent care, and millions of people get absolutely no care at all. This is why Within Reach exists: to begin to unwind, understand, and attempt to address the glaring, enormous problems plaguing cancer medicine and medical systems around the world. It's a lofty goal, but it's the one that I, Evan Young, as the host of this show, am going to attempt to tackle. But even with decades of my own experience as a healthcare communications professional under my belt, I certainly can't tackle these problems on my own. In every episode throughout this season, we'll be bringing in expert guests that cut across a wide array of backgrounds to dig deep into the issues at hand. And for people into oncology, these are some seriously interesting topics: from underrepresentation of people of colour in clinical trials, to breaking through the taboos in taboo cancers, to the challenges facing rural healthcare. We'll be covering topics like this, and more, that are balanced on the cutting-edge of cancer today. So, if you have a vested interest in oncology, and you share in the goal of getting every patient possible the care that they need, then I invite you to tune into this show: Within Reach, from Avalere Health.🔗 Connect with us Within Reach: https://withinreach.avalerehealth.com/ Avalere Health: https://avalerehealth.com/https://www.linkedin.com/company/avalerehealth/Evan Young: https://www.linkedin.com/in/evan-young-sxp/
