Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXIX
No interview this time on The Wyrd Ways Rock Show, which means the spotlight falls firmly on the music. This edition delivers a packed mix of heavy hitters and underground discoveries, from the intensity of Infected Rain to the classic Thrash of Exodus to the majesty of the undisputed Finnish Queen of Symphonic Metal Herself, Tarja Turunen. Collaborations add extra weight, with Stitched-Up Heart joining forces with Butcher Babies and Okkultist featuring Fernando Ribeiro of Moonspell on new tracks making an appearance in this show. There’s also plenty of bombast and fresh blood, from Skindred to rising acts like Mallavora and Turbowitch—making this a no-frills, all-riffs edition packed with plenty of new music to discover. If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXVIII
Welcome to the latest edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show.As always, the focus remains on the music and the push to get diverse voices heard. The centrepiece of this show is an interview I did at SOS 2025 with young Manchester-based band, Dacara. Huge thanks to them for the chat. As is the tradition here, I handed them the keys to the playlist for a bit afterward. You’ll be hearing Nice Try and Rot, plus a guest appearance from Dinosaur Pile-Up on Thrash Metal Cassette. The rest of the set is a mix of new tracks that have caught my attention lately, including new stuff from Rob Zombie and Ruoska, medieval Doom from Castle Rat, and more new releases from Butcher Babies, Venus Grrrls, and the reformed Sister Sin. We’ve also got some Blackened material from Necrofier and Yoth Iria, alongside music from Carla Harvey and Charlie Benante's The Violent Hour and a little something from returning favourites, Toranaga UK.We’re closing the show with a tribute. As you’ve likely heard, Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell passed away a few days ago. Phil was a core part of the band for over three decades and a legend in his own right. It felt only right to end this show with Born To Raise Hell in his honour. As always, I’m looking to amplify the voices of the people who make the Metal scene work, especially the marginalised, such as women, POC, the LGBTQIA+ community, and sex workers. This scene belongs to the outsiders, and we need to stick together and help each other where we can. If you're making music or art (that includes dance, clothing, jewellery, equipment... anything, really), get in touch via the Contact Page or Instagram. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXVII
This one took a bit longer to put together than expected. Honestly, I wanted to get it together a couple of weeks ago, but just didn't have the spoons.Anyway... As usual, The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is about new music and forcing a woke agenda down your throats. So a lot of the bands have women in them. With today, as I type this, being International Women's Day, I think that's kind of appropriate. So is the final track - the debut of Arch Enemy's new singer, Lauren Hart. By the way, before any knuckle-draggers demand to know, it's 23rd November, OK? If you know how to write or count, you can put it in your diaries. We've also got an interview I did a few weeks ago with Dr Kate Quinn, dyed-in-the-wool Metalhead and one of the founders of Heavy Metal Therapy, an online resource and community of people who find Metal music helpful for mental well being (myself included). It is a place to find and share experiences of how Metal has helped us, the meaning we take from songs or lyrics, and play lists that we have found useful. It is for everyone, so we don’t judge each others metal preferences. Here's the link: Heavy Metal Therapy. As always, except for the three post-interview tracks, every song in this edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is personally chosen by my good self and played because of all the music I get sent by various record companies and pluggers, these are the ones that caught my attention the most. Your choice or your band could be on a future show. If you want anything played, message me via the Contact Page or on Instagram. That includes if you want to tip me off about a band you've discovered.I'm also trying to raise up marginalized voices in the Metal community, so if any women, POCs, sex workers or members of the LGBTQIA+ community fancy a chat about what they do (which also includes musicians, performers, artists and literally anything else), what got them into Rock and Metal and the music they love, get in touch and we'll figure something out either in person or via Zoom.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXVI
Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXVI features special guests Anika McRae (one of the head honchoes of City Of Counterculture) and John Marshall joining me in the studio... erm the room at work we recorded in for this edition. Both of them are more than likely to make repeat appearances. As always, there’s a strong focus on new material and up-and-coming bands, but there's also some more experienced hands on deck. Across the playlist you’ll hear music from Helloween, Harpy, Truckfighters, Clawfinger, 5Rand, and Exodus, with 3111 marking the welcome return of Rob Dukes on vocals, following the recent brief blink-and-you'll-miss-it return of Steve “Zetro” Souza.Elsewhere in the show: Vicious Rumors, The Gems, Rob Zombie, Infinitas, Solitary, Bloodride and plenty more from across the underground and established scenes.A broad mix this time around: Power Metal, Alt, Thrash, Hard Rock and Metalcore, just the way you like it.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXV
This edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show marks a new chapter for the show, with a fresh theme tune replacing Rat Salad. With Black Sabbath’s retirement and the passing of Ozzy Osbourne earlier this year, it felt like the right time to make the change and usher in something new for the show.In this edition, we’re diving into a solid mix of Trad, Symphonic, and Death Metal with a bit of Folk and Doom sprinkled on the side to taste. You’ll hear tracks from Venger, the new project from Saxon's Doug Scarratt, Tailgunner, with their new single, Tears in Rain, inspired by the iconic monologue from Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner, as well as Death Dealer, and promising Italian band HyperioN.Alissa White-Gluz also gets a well-deserved spotlight in this episode. You’ll hear The Room Where She Died, a track that shows off her full vocal range, a side of her work that didn’t get much exposure during her time with Arch Enemy. If you’ve followed her work, you’ll know she’s capable of more than just growls, and this track proves that.As usual, there’s a bit of variety. Along with the Metal tracks, I’ll be sharing some personal updates—specifically, how recovery’s been going after my cataract surgery, as well as my recent ADHD diagnosis. In addition to the music, I’ll also touch on a few current events, including my thoughts on Anthony Joshua’s demolition of social media dick and Trump supporter Jake Paul (Joshua smiling when he dropped Paul in the final round was an almost artistic moment. Joshua’s statement afterward, claiming he deliberately dragged out the fight to “torture” Paul, only added to the amusement. I'll also touch on Andrew Tate getting a lesson in humility (ie being roundly spanked) from a younger fighter in Dubai.Orchid Throne, Nicholas Monsanto's solo Doom project and Hungarian Symphonic Metal band Meteora make an excellent showing before the show’s second half dives deeper into aggressive Metal, including tracks from Gravewitch, Lik, and some post-punk from Northampton’s Utopia Development Corporation. Finally, we wrap up the show with an invitation for artists from marginalized communities — specifically BIPOC, women, and the sex work community. If you’re a non-traditional Metal artist, or a non-traditional artist who's into Metal and want to share your work, I’d love to have you on the show. It’s all about fostering a community of support, especially for those who don’t always get the recognition they deserve in the scene. If you stand against the tide of division, we want to hear from you. That’s The Wyrd Ways Rock Show. Keeping the volume honest. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXIV
Okay, as you've probably noticed this edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is running a little late. For those of you wondering where I’ve been, I’ve been dealing with some vision issues over the past few months. Things were getting pretty bad, to the point where I couldn’t read the screen on my computer properly and had to give up driving at night because I literally couldn’t see the end of the road. Fortunately, after an operation at Calderdale Hospital, I now have artificial lenses in my eyes, and I can actually see again! The surgery was done under local anaesthetic, and though it was a weird experience – I could see what was going on while they worked – I was well looked after by the wonderful staff there. It’s definitely not something I want to go through again, but I’m incredibly grateful for how smooth the whole process was, and I’m on the mend now, ready to get back to doing what I love. But back to the show – in this edition, you’ll hear fresh(-ish!) tracks from the likes of Paradise Lost, Kubika, and Royal Lynne, along with some of the other new music that’s dropped while I’ve been away. But it’s not just about the music – we also need to talk about some of the tougher, more frustrating issues within society and the Metal scene right now. Specifically, the ongoing challenges that sex workers (some of whom I know personally) and others in marginalised communities, which includes women as a whole, are facing on social media. Platforms like Instagram have been cracking down on content linked to pole dancers, yoga instructors, sex educators, strippers and even information services, shadow-banning accounts and removing posts, which is not only damaging to the people directly affected, but the wider community as well. It's one of those things that really needs more attention, and it’s something we should all be concerned about. As always, The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is about more than just the music, it's about the people who love it and make it, no matter who they are, where they come from, who they love and what they do for a living – it’s about supporting the bands and artists that don’t always get the attention they deserve. I’m all for giving a platform to up-and-coming talent, and you can expect to hear music from some of the underdogs in the scene. But it’s also about celebrating the diverse voices in Metal. Whether you’re a dancer, a painter, a sex worker, a designer, or just someone with a unique perspective on the scene – everyone deserves to have their voice heard. And that's what I'm trying to do with the interviews I'm arranging. So, if you’re in a band, have a new track, or just want to get in touch, drop me a message. I’m always looking for fresh music and new voices to feature. The only proviso is that you should love the music. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXXIII
Hello and welcome to this week's edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show. This week's show, as well as all the usual brand spanking new music and interesting bands I've found while trawling social media, there's an interview with "the sex face of Burlesque" herself, originator of Stripknot (yes, you did read that correctly!), Trixie Blue. I spoke to her about... hang on... why am I telling you? Go listen to the interview if you want to hear what we talk about!Anyway... like I mention in the show, I'm looking for more people to chat with for the show. With this being Pride Month, I'd like to shine more of a spotlight on queer creators within the Rock and Metal scene. So if you're LGBTQIA+, do something creative, obviously that includes being in a band and are into Rock and Metal, get in touch and we'll have a chat, record it and get your voice heard. This especially applies to our trans siblings and any sex workers. With the sort of shite you're having heaped on you at the moment, your voices need to be heard even more.As members of the Metal community, we know what it's like to be "othered" and treated as if we're mentally deficient or need rescuing. We know we aren't and we don't, so let's band together with others who feel and are being treated the same way or even worse. At least it isn't illegal in most countries to listen to Metal. There's far too many where it's illegal to be queer or a sex worker. That's not right. Let's try and do something about it, eh?Remember, you can also listen and subscribe to the show on YouTube Podcasts, Google Podcasts (where still available), Apple Podcasts, Amazon Podcasts and wherever else you get your podcasts. If you subscribe, please leave a review and rate us 5*. That way we push up the algorhythm and get the music out to more ears.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Before we get going with this week's Wyrd Ways Rock Show, Porcelain Victoria (this week's guest) asked me to pass on her apologies for misgendering Bambie Thug. They identify as "they/them", not "she/her" as Victoria said during the interview. No offence meant. So I had a little bit of a fanboy moment when recording this week's show. I've been listening to <strong>Porcelain Victoria</strong>'s podcast, <a href="https://behindthepaddle.co.uk/">Behind The Paddle</a> for a while and have learned a lot from it. I was somewhat shocked when she agreed to talk to me over Zoom about her love of Metal. I needn't have worried, Victoria was fantastic. I would love to have her on the show again sometime. Massive thanks to her for agreeing to the interview. You might be wondering why I've been interviewing non-musicians on <strong>The Wyrd Ways Rock Show</strong>. It's a music show, right? There's a very good reason. This music we call Metal unites a lot of people from across the world. Metal is for everyone. We are a community and we should be looking after our own. Some of our siblings are being silenced, legislated against (or threatened with it) or being "othered" by society at large, and it's past time we all stepped up and helped. I'm doing that by listening to them and magnifying their voices by getting them on the show to talk about the thing that unites us all - Metal. It's a lot harder to "other" someone who shares your tastes. It also helps us to be reminded that people in marginalized communites like women, POCs, queer people, trans people and sex workers of all types are just as human as we are and deserve to be treated in the same way.I'm using my cis het white guy privilege and my platform, such as it is, to stand up for any of my siblings (as a human being and a dyed-in-the-wool Metalhead) who are being downtrodden by bigots, right wing politicians, TERFs and SWERFs.The rest of the show is the usual mix of high quality brand new Rock and Metal, served just the way you like it with a bit of a chat about the Sexplicit event, run by <a href="https://poledancestrippermovement.co.uk/">PDSM</a> I went to last weekend.Shall we...?If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. This edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show features a special guest star as part of my push to getting more diverse voices and interesting people on the show - fire performer, model, Circus freak, piercer, Paddle Mag Awards winner 2024, Sexual Freedom Awards Finalist 2025, and Alternative Awards nominee 2025, Kitty Von Crypt. As usual with guests on the show, Kitty also gets to pick some music to play after her interview. Huge thanks to Kitty for agreeing to have a chat with me.What else have we got for you...?Well, things are Heavier this week than they have been, mostly influenced by my mood (which also explains why I didn't do a show last week - didn't have the mental spoons to do it). So you can expect a lot of angry music this week. Which is nice.If any of you are out and about in Manchester on the 17th May and happen to have tickets for Sexplicit: Alt Arousal, I'll see you there. Feel free to find me and have a chat. If you're a performer, artist, designer or musician, especially if you are a woman, POC, queer (including our trans siblings) or a sex worker, let's get your voice amplified. We need to be celebrating diversity and proving that Metal is for everyone.Us outsiders need to stick together. Welcome to the new edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show!Life got in the way again and I had a mental system crash last weekend, so that delayed everything. That's one of the things that happens when you're dealing with depression and anxiety. I hope that by being open with my own fight, we can normalise talking about it. That's one of the reasons I'm teaming up with Heavy Metal Therapy for a night of D&D at Powder Monkey Gaming in Huddersfield.Want to know more? Check out the episode. There's more details there.I know it's been a bit longer than a week since I last made a noise in your ears, but hopefully you'll find this show to have been worth the wait. Over 2 hours of top quality Rock and Metal with a touch of social commentary. Yes, I did get angry about something again. Yes, the Wyrd Ways Rock Show continues to be woke as f*ck and makes no apologies for that.Let's get loud.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXIX
This week's Wyrd Ways Rock Show comes at a time when our trans siblings are under attack from TERFs like that woman who wrote the Harry Potter books, the UK Supreme Court and even our Health Secretary, Wes Streeting. Please, if you are in the UK, write to your MP expressing your disgust at the way this marginalized community is being treated. This is especially despicable from a Labour government.Getting away from politics and human rights (because trans rights ARE human rights) for a moment, there's nearly 2 hours of brand new, high quality Rock and Metal from established and up-and-coming bands.Turn it up. The louder we are, the less they can ignore us.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Apologies for the lateness of this "week"'s edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show - I just totally ran out of spoons. I'm only just now starting to be recovered enough to be doing all the stuff needed to put a show together. If you're wondering why I'm referring to cutlery and what that has to do with anything, click on this link for an explanation. It explains quite nicely while people like me who have mental health conditions, or people with any kind of chronic illness quite often can't do the things they want to do.Anyway, it's a really varied show this time out (I'm not going to say "week", because... well... it wasn't weekly this time), so there's more than likely going to be something for literally everyone, so long as you like some Rock and Metal in your ears.Shall we get on with it?Remember you can follow me on Instagram, Threads and even TikTok - just click on the links. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXVII
Welcome to the latest edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show. This week's show is packed to the proverbial gunwhales with the usual blend of top quality brand new Rock and Metal, as you'd expect. We’ve got brand-new music from Vanitas and Bloodywood, a taste of Ward XVI’s upcoming album Id3ntity, and a guest appearance from FFDP's Ivan Moody on The Funeral Portrait’s Holy Water. But it’s not just about the music—there’s some serious cause for celebration. Since I recorded the show, the results have come in, and I need to give a huge shoutout to Ember Auburn, Charlotte and Amethyst Allure for smashing it at the You Filthy F*cker pole dance competition at The Hive in Skegness on the 22nd March (that's last night, as I'm writing this), with Ember taking third and Char taking second in the Beginners' category and Amethyst earning the Stripper’s Choice award in Pro.Hit play on the player (or on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music or whichever podcast player you use), turn it up, and let’s get to it.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXVI
It's been a little more than a week since the last edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show, but there is a reason for that. I had an anxiety attack at the pole class I attend on Saturday mornings. That basically meant that Saturday (where I do most of my planning for the new show) was a write-off, with Sunday being mostly about getting my head back together for Monday. The good news is that the Tuesday session (last night, as I write this) was fine. I was just too tired after getting home at nearly 11pm to finish the uploading and publishing.Talking of pole (and things related), if you're in Manchester on the 17th May, there's an event going on at Rebellion that may well be of interest to you. PDSM are holding Sxxplicit: Alt Arousal, starting at 5pm. Tickets are still on sale here and dancer applications are also open (contact PDSM for those). Metal and hot dancers in a stripper-led, inclusive, sex-positive, LGBTQIA+-friendly environment - what more could you want?Talking of things you might want, entries to Vertex Pole Championships in Liverpool, organised by pole-hero, Enya Torres, are closing on 14th April. If you're a poledancer and want to be recognized by a jury of your peers, get 'em in!OK... enough of the advertising other people for now (although if it's something I believe in, I'm always willing to advertise it), and on to my own stuff:A little over 2 hours of quality, hot-off-the-presses Rock and Metal, mostly from up-and-coming bands.Obviously Spiritbox, Bleed From Within, Epica and Cradle Of Filth aren't exactly up-and-coming, but they have got new stuff out. So there you go...If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXV
This week's (oops...) edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show was going to be released before International Women's Day, but unfortunately the number of spoons I had available weren't up to the task. Especially after the emotional kick in the balls I received midweek. There's a few more details on my Insta, if you're intrigued, but that's limited to close friends.Anyway, as is sort-of traditional for International Women's Day in these parts, the new edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is a showcase of women in Metal. Check out the playlist below. As I keep saying, time and time again, "female fronted Metal" is NOT A GENRE - it's a lazy label applied by misogynists who can't see past their own noses (since it probably sticks out further than their... no. We're not going to be bodyshaming). This Women's History Month, play this show especially loud. I've deliberately not included the likes of Nightwish and Epica (although there is a bit of Symphonic Metal in there... because I do enjoy a bit of Symphonic), but focussed on the newer bands, since that's what The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is all about. While I'm here, I'm also going to plug some woman-led entertainment enterprises I'm very much enjoying/looking forward to - Darkhaus Burlesque, Burning Hell Burlesque and Sxxplicit's pop-up stripper-led strip club nights, run by PDSM. Check them out and throw your support behind them. They're trying to make things better and that's something we should all be in favour of.In fact, the only track that may not have female members, rather than being all male, is the final one - that's because it was put in there for Nameless Ghule on Insta, since she likes a bit of Ghost. She didn't request it, but I know she likes them, and you do stuff like that for people you enjoy the company of (even if it's just online), right? If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXIV
Welcome once again to The Wyrd Ways Rock Show. This week, as usual, loads of new releases from bands from all over the planet, showing just what a diverse genre Rock and Metal truly is, despite the best efforts of gatekeepers I like to call The Metal Taliban (there's even an article I wrote about that on The Wyrd Ways Rock Show website in the Blog section if you want to have a read). As well as that, I get to play some music for some friends (Chloe, Liz and Nameless) who suggested tracks for this week's show. Chloe and Liz even introduced me to some new stuff that I will be diving deeper in to. I kind of feel a little guilty (but not THAT guilty) about chasing Nameless for her request.Anyway, I also have a bit of a rant and if you had any doubt as to my stance on sex work and sex workers, I'm leaving it in no doubt: Sex work is work. Decrim Now and Proceed Without Caution. Listen to the show if you want to know more, or DM me and I'll point you in the direction of people who know a lot more than I do and can explain this issues with far better clarity than I can manage.So... this one definitely has a consenting adults only sticker on it!Play it loudIf you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXIII
Welcome to the new edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show.Apolgies for their being no show last week. The first week in February is a massively busy (and expensive) one for me - both my wife and my son have birthdays. So I literally didn't have the headspace or time to do all the necessary work to put a show together. This week's different. I've actually had some time this week. Not that this week's not had it's events. My friend, Katy, has had a tough time recently, all of it coming to a head very recently. So this show is dedicated to her.On the up-side, I went to see Heavy Metal Burlesque troupe, Darkhaus Burlesque at The Blind Pig in Sowerby Bridge. And it was fantastic. They're next playing at The Attic in Leeds on 22nd March with their new Witches & Warlocks show. Think I'll be going to that. With that in mind, the last few tracks are composed of music Darkhaus used in their Cupid's Revenge show.Turn it up.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXXII
Yet again proving Gene Simmons wrong, here's another edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show.Seriously, if he was right, I wouldn't be finding so much new stuff to enjoy and play for you. I'd be stuck to playing the "old favourites", and that's when I'd probably give up. What keeps me going is all the new stuff that either arrives in my Inbox or I find on Instagram and Bandcamp. There's loads of quality new music out there, it's just a little harder to find than it was in the late 80's.As always, if you know of any new up-and-coming bands who could do with some more airplay or you're a member of one of those bands, get in touch via the Contact Form on the Wyrd Ways Rock Show website or drop me a message via Instagram, Threads or TikTok.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. What's in this week's new edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show? Two hours of quality hot-from-the-studio Rock and Metal. Except for the opening track. That's a total classic. Hard to believe it's 35 years oid this year. OK, make that almost impossible. There's also news about a new pole championship, organised by Rude Studios supremo, Enya Torres. It'll be taking place in Liverpool in September. If you want more details, including ticket prices, and more importantly, catgories and entry requirements, go to vertexpole.com.Anyway... let's get on with it.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. It's a bit heavier this week. It's also a bit late. I know. I've been somewhat tired the last few days and a bit out of sorts mentally (long-time listeners will know that me and my brain don't get on), so the editing and mixing have been not happening.Something I will mention is that I'm looking at setting up a Discord and a Patreon to make it easier for you to get in touch, ask for songs, tip me off about new bands, and so on. Depending on the tiers, there'll also be exclusive content. Please rate and follow the show on whatever platform you're listening. It helps me give the bands I'm showing you a leg up, and that's what this is all about. And just as a reminder: The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is a safe space for women, sex workers and queer people of ALL descriptions. Trump supporters, TERFs and SWERFs can go f*ck themselves. They're not welcome here.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. CONTENT WARNING: This week;s show contains adult themes and content.Alongside the usual plethora of new music, I stole at least part of the format for this week's show from the Come Curious podcast. So it's all about looking back on the last year and looking forward to 2025.I also get to have a bit of a rant about transphobia and whorephobia.Just to give you a clue, I'm not on the sides of the phobics. The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is a safe space for women, sex workers and queer people of ALL kinds. So here it is.The last Wyrd Ways Rock Show of 2024.This one focusses on the bands I discovered in the last 12 months, so may not be what you might have expected. Then again, with me, what's "the expected"?Thanks for listening during this year and I hope that continues into 2025.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXVII
Welcome to what's probably the final Wyrd Ways Rock Show of 2024.Some of you will, no doubt, be glad to know there's no Christmas music in this week's show. As per usual, it's all new music. While I'm here, there's some people who need some help.Studio Sevvven in north London is at risk of closure because their local council don't like kinsksters, sex workers and queers having somewhere safe to do what they do. The council have decided to change the goalposts and are saying the studio needs a different type of licence than the one they have. They need money to pay a lawyer to put the council straight and more money to apply for the correct licence. Here's the link to the GoFundMe.Some of you may be wondering what this has to do with the Metal community. Well, aside from the fact that some of us are in the kink, sex worker and queer communities, there's the issue of councils going after people who aren't doing anything illegal for "moral" reasons, usually hand-in-hand with extreme right wing politics. It has to stop and we need to be part of stopping it by standing up for our fellow outsiders. Because that's what we are in the Metal community - we're outsiders, and thanks to Rob Halford and others, a bit part of our aesthetic comes from kink. OK, we don't get it in the neck as badly as the queer and sex-worker communities especially do, but somebody's got to start fighting back, and it might as well be us.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. CONTENT WARNING: THIS WEEK'S WYRD WAYS ROCK SHOW CONTAINS ADULT LANGUAGE AND TOPICSRunning a bit late this week thanks to Apple Music being a c*nt.What do I mean by that? One of the tracks I wanted to play on the show is only available to buy via Apple Music. So I downloaded Apple Music, bought the track and tried to download it... but it turns out they won't let you do that. I've bought the f*cking thing, doesn't that mean I can do what I want with it? Apparently not. So as well as ripping off the artist by only giving them a fraction of a penny per stream, streamers also rip off the customers by not letting them own the thing they've bought. It took me several hours of faffing about to discover that, thanks to outdated instructions on t'internet, which had the knock-on effect of meaning that I couldn't record when I normally would. This is why I'm a big proponent of the likes of Bandcamp for bands and artists who aren't signed anywhere. Not only do they get something like 80% of the money spent (according to Bandcamp's website, so that may not be strictly accurate) on their product, but the customer gets a copy of the files to store on their own drives or equipment.Anyway...Aside from a hefty slab of good music from those ridiculously talented people listed below, there's also a request in there for help for a North London kink/lgbtqia+/sex-friendly establishment by the name of <a href="https://www.studiosevvven.com/">Studio Sevvven</a>. Their local council seems to be doing their level best to shut the place down for spurious "moral" reasons. It's time for us, members of the Alt/Metal community, to stand with our kinky/queer/sex-worker brothers and sisters to resist this new wave of puritanism that seems to be trying to take us back to the 1950's. And you know we'll be next, don't you? Anyone with tattoos, piercings or even long hair (if AMAB) will be targeted. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXV
We're in the final month of 2024.From a personal standpoint, it's not been a good year. From a musical standpoint it's been pretty amazing, proving yet again that Gene Simmons is an idiot. Yet again, he's spouting that "Rock is dead". He couldn't be more wrong if he tried. One look at the Wyrd Ways Rock Show playlists from the last couple of weeks would show him how wrong he is. It's not dead. Rock has done what it has been doing for the past 50-odd years - it's evolved. That's what I love about Rock and Metal. That's why I'm still a Metalhead after over 35 years. If Rock and Metal didn't change, I would have got bored by now. It's constantly changing and evolving, which is part of the reason I love it so much, and why it's also part of the therapy I use to help with my depression and anxiety.Play it loud. Let's make the Black Dog's ears bleed. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CDXIV
This is probably the most musically diverse show I've ever done. It's certainly the most non-traditional, I think.I'm finding a lot of interesting stuff by surfing Stories and Reels on Instagram. Of course, as longtime listeners will already know, if I find something interesting, that I like, I'll play it on the show. That means there's a bit more than expected from Australia. My continuing support of women and queer musicians is leading down some fascinating side roads in the Alt and Metal sphere. And that only makes for a better show, am I right?I'm also going to put a couple of requests out to any Rock and Metal musicians or fans of Rock/Metal reading this who might be interested in being interviewed for the show or website, especially if you're a vagina-owner, queer or a current or former sex worker (that includes stripping and OnlyFans etc): send me a message and we'll get something set up. I'm wanting to get more diverse perspectives, especially with people in those particular communities coming under increasing attack from the right-wingers. As a neurodivergent Metalhead with mental health problems, I've ended up on the outside and us outsiders should be sticking together, right?Music submissions from the aformentioned groups are also extremely welcome (as are all music submissions). Message me on this link and we'll talk.If you've not already subscribed to the podcast, here's the player with another subscribe link on it. Subscribing and rating gets the podcast into more ears, which helps the bands I'm playing, so please give us a few clicks:If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. The weekly Wyrd Ways Rock Show is back for the time being! There's been so much good music I've been finding recently, I'm making a lot more shows than normal. Not bad, eh?Anyway... if you need it, there's a bit of a TW for mental health problems (mine!) and sex. They're linked together and I've been talking to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/bettersx.blog/">Alice Lovegood of the Better Sx Academy</a>. She gets a mention and also a track played (that's why there's some classic Black Sabbath in this week's playlist).Remember to rate and subscribe to the podcast in whatever podcast app you use. The more listeners, the more bands get to more ears. And you get to find your new favourite band.If you want to follow The Wyrd Ways Rock Show on social media, I'm wyrdwaysrockshow on Instagram and Threads and @wyrdwaysrockshow on TikTok.Shall we get on with this?If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. This is an unusual situation, isn't it? Two Wyrd Ways Rock Shows, two weeks in a row?! Is it a sign of The End Times?!With the political situation in the US, it might just be that.Anyway, continuing the policy of getting more women and marginalized communities onto the show (so long as they're making good music), there's loads of new stuff about to pour out of your earphones, or whatever it is you're listening on.This week's show was helped into being by all the PRs who send me music to play to you, the members of Vanitas, the ComeCurious podcast and the Instagram and OF presences of @hoopsydaisy, @MercedesValentine, @Raven_alternative and @AliceLovegood.This is VERY MUCH an Adult-Orientated podcast. If you're offeneded by Heavy Metal, "wokeness" and sex... Not done one of these since July, and it's now November. Oops.Been a busy few months at Castle Wyrd Ways. That's why there's been a big delay. You've listened to the interviews I did at at Stonedead, right?Anyway. As usual, there's loads of new stuff, including tracks from Celavi, Grand Magus and loads of others. You can see it in the tracklisting on the Wyrd Ways Rock Show website. There's another reason I got this finished this weekend. Anger. Anger at what's happened in America. How can over half the voting population of the country be so damned stupid, racist, homophobic and just plain wrong? I suppose this is what happens when the religious fundies kicked out of Europe create their own country. So as from now, The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is going to be platforming women, sex workers and members of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. We are Metal. We are the outsiders and outsiders have to stick together. If you voted for Trump, I don't want you listening to my show anymore. You spread hate? You're not welcome here.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. May was ridiculously busy this year. So much assignment marking to be done, so I wasn't in the right brain space for the work of putting a show together. Then there was The Final Shape...Anyway, Download 2024 was another mudbath that I'm glad I didn't attend, I can't got to SOS Festival in a couple of weeks because of transport issues and I appear to have a chest infection. That's why I sound so croaky. Ended up taking a day or so off work, which just shows you how crappy I feel. I'm not one for going off sick unless I absolutely have to.Have a couple of hours (or near enough) of quality Rock and Metal.Download 2024 was another mudbath that I'm glad I didn't attend, I can't got to SOS Festival in a couple of weeks because of transport issues and I appear to have a chest infection. It’s OK, folks, The Wyrd Ways Rock Show is back for another blast of quality Rock and Metal, just the way you love it.It’s May and Festival Season is just getting going. Here in the UK we’ve got Download, Stonedead and Bloodstock, in France there’s Hellfest and in Germany, there’s Wacken Open Air. Unfortunately Metal Days has been cancelled, but there’s loads of others, large and small all over Europe. America’s got a few (Sick New World, Maryland Deathfest, When We Were Young for the Emo crowd)… so it’s all kicking off worldwide. If you want some new music to listen to if you can’t get to any of those, or you need something to listen to on the way, stick on an edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show and turn it up. Loads of new stuff to pique your interest and burn out your Mosh Buffers.Let’s do it.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CD (400)
Hello again and welcome to the four hundredth (yes, you did read that correctly!) edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show.So I've done 400 individual podcasts as either Wyrd Ways Rock Show or WWRS: The Forge, so for the milestone I thought I'd return to the original numbering and even the original style - doing it in Roman numerals. What's in this edition? Aside from me ranting on a little bit about the state of Heavy music at the moment (mostly the Death Metal, Metalcore and Deathcore scenes - I am worried about the preponderance of vocalists who are pretty much interchangeable in terms of sound and the conformity of song structures), it's all about the music. What's in the playlist? Take a look on the website or give it a listen. That's the best way to find out!If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Obviously that's not all. Heading for two hours of top class Metal.Check the tracklisting on the Wyrd Ways Rock Show website at www.wyrdwaysrs.comIf you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show 3-02
A slightly longer show this week. I seem to be getting back into this. At least for now. The new stuff is the focus of this generation of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show, so that's what this week's edition is all about - new music. As a bit of an indulgence, though, I am finishing with a classic slice of 80's cheese.Mosh buffers to maximum. Here we go...If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CCCLXXIV
After last week's edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show, I thought I'd go a bit Heavier this time out. So for those of you who like a bit more Thrash and Death Metal in your auditory diet, there's a little more for you to get your teeth into. That doesn't mean the fans of Hard Rock and Power Metal are left high and dry, though. There's definitely a few moments for you in there, too. Personal picks for this week among the new stuff include Thrasherwolf, Defecto and Schwarzer Engel. This week's Spotlight band are also something of a personal favourite, having seen them absolutely steal the show when supporting Orange Goblin at the original Bradford Rios many moons ago and again at the Damnation Festival in Leeds a few years later. As usual, if you want to get in touch to ask for a song or contribute to Russian Roulette or suggest a band for Covered or Spotlight, you can talk to me via the Contact page, on Twitter @wyrdwaysrock or on Facebook. If you become a Patreon Subscriber at patreon.com/metalscienceteacher you also get access to the Discord, you get the show at higher sound quality and earlier than anyone else AS WELL AS several exclusive subscriber-only bonus shows such as The Thrash Hour, The Power Hour and The Trad Metal Meltdown which are all the ideal length for your workout, commute or whatever else you need a concentrated burst of PROPER HEAVY METAL to get you through. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CCCLXXII
Just when you thought it was safe to listen to a podcast... It's back... The Wyrd Ways Rock Show returns...Some of you are probably wondering why I changed the name of the show. Some of you are probably wondering why I changed the name back to the original. It's basically the same answer: It was something I felt like I needed to do.It's been two years since I last used the name "The Wyrd Ways Rock Show", and part of the reason I've not really done much podcasting in the meantime is that it's not felt right for a while. The difference now is that it's starting to feel more right again. Hopefully it's not just another false start and I really am finally getting the old thrill back. Only time will tell. The bonus for you is that you get two hours of top quality Metal from around the world. You also get an old song being redone and the debut of a new feature: Russian Roulette, so named because (in the words of the listener who gave it the name), "You never know what you're going to get". Which is apt.Anyway. I promised you two hours of quality Metal, so click the link and turn it up.If you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast. Wyrd Ways Rock Show CCCLXXI
Hello friends!Yes, the next edition of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show has finally arrived. Some of you probably thought you’d never be hearing my dulcet tones again. Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m back.Anyway, there’s been a fair amount of music been released during the last few months, so you’ll be getting to hear just some of the things that caught my ear. I can’t guarantee something for everyone, but if you’ve got similar tastes to me, you’ll love it.As well as all the wonderful new(ish)ness from your more established bands, you’ll also find three bands you’ve almost certainly never heard before in Shock Of The New and this week’s Record Of The Week. If you want to find out what that is… well, if you could scroll down to the playlist, but you’ll only be cheating yourself. You’ll also make me very disappointed in you.Don’t be that person. You owe it to yourself. So without further ado, since you are one of the lovely people who helps make the show happen by supplying new music, helping out with the costs of hosting and so on (which I could really do with more of, to be honest – if you want to advertise on the website, the rates are ridiculously reasonable!), or you’re someone who is helping spread the word, the link to the full throttle, all guns blazing show with the bucket seats, racing suspension and roll cage is RIGHT HEREIf you’re in a band and want your music played on a future show, get in touch at [email protected] same goes if there’s something you want to hear, or if you’re a fan with a story about how Metal changed your life, especially if you’re part of a marginalised community. #sexworkiswork #blacklivesmatter #lgbtqia+ #transrightsarehumanrights #decrimnow Hosted on Acast.
