The RedZone Overtime
On this episode of RedZone Overtime, the new crew of Host Connor Allyn, Co-Host Jason Zaehler and Producer Kole Schipper go over ISU Baseball/Softball. Following that segment, the crew look at some scores and games from the NBA Playoffs before talking Cubs and White Sox. Second Look: April 19th
In this week’s episode of Second Look, WZND’s Rachael Deerfield and Jason Zaehler recapped the biggest local and campus stories of the week. The annual Gamma Phi circus show featuring student performers starts tonight. WZND’s Kaitlyn Witas spoke to program director Rainie Themer Bosquet for the Gamma Phi Circus to learn more about the theme of this year’s show, acts, and the history of the circus (1:28). The Town of Normal and Illinois State University hosted the Campus Safety Showcase on Monday. The showcase served as the final community outreach event for the Pedestrian and Roadway Campus Safety Initiative. WZND’s Kyra Craddock spoke to Rachel Aziz, the Co-founder of All Together. Kyra then spoke with Ryan Otto, the Director of Public Works and Engineering for the Town of Normal (6:22). The McLean County Ecology Action Center will host workshops all week to teach the community about sustainability. WZND’s Marcellus Willson spoke to Kaite Voglar, the education and outreach manager at the Ecology Action Center (10:13) After the break, Rachael spoke with WZND’s Ben Webster about Tornado safety in central Illinois and ISU. After another short break, Rachael and Jason recapped Illinois State softball, baseball, and tennis from over the week.

Second Look: April 12th
In this week’s episode of Second Look, WZND’s Rachael Deerfield and Kaitlyn Witas took a look at local news, featuring a food pantry at the Normal Public Library, the repurposing of the old Pantagraph building, an ISU worker strike and sexual assault awareness month. Next, they talked about ISU sports. To open the show WZND’s Jade Roth spoke with Morgan Bueza, a library assistant, and Laura Golaszewski, the library’s patron experience manager about the purpose of the pantry (0:44). Next, WZND’s Ben Webster spoke to City Economic Development Specialist Josh Maubach about the redevelopment plan for the old Pantagraph building. (11:18) Afterwards, the team looked into the details of the AFSCME Local 1110 ISU worker strike. Then, they dove deeper into Kaitlyn’s story in which she spoke to the president of Students Ending Rape Culture Lauren Bounds about their day of no silence event (21:04) After the break, Kaitlyn answered some questions about sexual assault awareness month. To conclude the show, the team talked about all things ISU sports including softball, baseball and tennis.

In this week’s episode of Second Look, WZND’s Rachael Deerfield took a look at local news, featuring a safety initiative in the City of Bloomington, a transgender day of visibility event, and a new exhibit at the children’s discovery museum. Next, she talked about ISU sports, and then took a closer look at stories from March’s Birds-I-View show centered around women’s history month. To open the show WZND’s Kyra Craddock spoke with the multimedia specialist at University Marketing and Communications and co-president of Queer Coalition, Brie Byers to find out more about a trans day of visibility event this week. (0:43) Next, WZND’s Jacie Hinton spoke to Phillip Allyn, the city of Bloomington’s traffic engineer about intersection construction. BIRDS-I-VIEW: WOMEN'S HEALTH
In the March edition of “Birds-I-View” Colleen Holden, Ally Cooper, and Bella Marello took a look at women’s health, from resources to healthcare disparities women face to the stigma surrounding the menstrual cycle. The show opened with Jacie Hinton looking into the health resources available and advocacy for women’s healthcare (1:41-4:44). Following this, Rachael Deerfield focused women’s mental health (5:10-8:10). Next, Colleen Holden took a look at the stigma surrounding the menstrual cycle (8:53-12:57). Ally Cooper dived into endometriosis diagnosis (13:17-16:45). Then, Bella Marello examined maternal healthcare and health equity (17:35-20:38). The show closed with Allie Hunn examining the political aspect of women’s health with an interview between Val Garay and an Illinois State Representative (21:14-23:42).

Second Look: March 22nd
In this week’s episode of Second Look, WZND’s Rachael Deerfield and Jason Zaehler recapped the biggest local and campus stories of the week. To begin the show, Jason gave breaking news that occurred over night related to a shooting that happened near campus. WZND’s Cole Loiacano stepped into the world of local elections this week following primaries across the state. Cole spoke with Mclean County Clerk Kathy Michael about turnout, civic duty, and results in the Mclean County area (1:37). On Saturday night, the Bloomington Bison teamed up with the Humane Society for Central Illinois for their annual Pucks and Paws event. Funds that are raised during the event go directly to the Humane Society to support their daily operations. WZND’s Jacie Hinton spoke to the director of community engagement, Nicole Monson (9:24) After the break, Rachael and Jason gave a recap of Illinois State sports from over the week. After another break, Rachael and Jason took a look at the March edition of Birds-I-View (16:42).

Second Look: March 1st
In this week’s episode of Second Look, WZND’s Rachael Deerfield and Jason Zaehler recapped the biggest local and campus stories of the week. The final week of February was the annual Birds Give Back event, where current students, family, friends, and alumni gave back to Illinois State University. WZND’s Jade Roth spoke to Senior Managing Director of Donor Engagement and Campaign Communications, Jillian Nelson. The university would end up raising a little over $817,000 in the one-day event(0:56). On Wednesday, the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department hosted its annual job fair. WZND’s Marcellus Willson spoke to marketing analyst Caroline Hirschauer to discuss what jobs are available and what candidates should expect (10:34). After the break, Rachael and Jason gave updates on ISU and its athletics. After another break, Rachael and Jason took a look back at the February edition of Birds-I-View, Behind the badge. The show ended with Jason Zaehler’s interview with ISU Police Chief Aaron Woodruff on the training of officers surrounding current immigration enforcement (19:16).

Birds-I-View: Behind the Badge
In the February edition of “Birds-I-View” Colleen Holden, Bella Marello, Cole Loiacano, and Lucy Tomlinson took a look behind the badge of local law enforcement from a ride-along interview with an officer to public opinion of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The show opened with Colleen Holden ride along with a police officer (1:54-5:51). Following this, Cole Loiacano focused on the rapidly changing world of policing (10:42-9:56). Next, Jason Zaeheler took a look at the training behind the police force (9:34-14:02). Kaitlyn Witas dived into how the police have responded to some of the campus emergencies in recent memories (14:26-18:15). The show closed with Bella Marello looking into public opinion of law enforcement and the recent protests sparking up in retaliation to United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (19:01-22:19).
