Yugi Boys

Three adult men discuss a show for children that none of them really like.

    Yugi Boys #27: Double Duel

Strap in for a long one. The Yugi Boys are covering five episodes this time and that may push us to our breaking point. Yugi and Kaiba are confronted with a new obstacle that will require them to work together. Their challenge - a tag team duel against an unlikely crossover team of Ginyu Force's Guldo and Marik's Rare Hunter Umbra. The stakes - the losers fall into the shadow realm, literally. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang is up to their own adventures. Shamu runs the show at the aquarium, Namu makes some new friends, Tea and Mokuba play a game of Jenga, Tristan finds his way to the friend zone, Joey loses his mind, Gramps and Bakura take a trip to the hospital, and so much more! There's no way you can miss this episode!

    Yugi Boys #26: Legendary Fisherman

In this episode of the Yugi Boys, we uncover a huge conspiracy in the Yugioh universe. During this duel between Joey and Mako, the show takes a step back to its Duelist Kingdom roots. Mako summons a card, Great White, that is very reminiscent of one of his monsters from the first season. In season one, we were introduced to Great White Terror - a 1500 attack, 1200 defense monster with card art that doesn’t match any card in the trading card game. What’s more, the name Great White Terror doesn’t match any TCG card, while only coming close to Great White -  the card introduced in these episodes. This is where everything really takes a dark turn. Great White is a monster with 1600 attack, clearly distinct from the 1500 attack Great White Terror, however, the English dub changes Great White Terror’s attack to 1600 in a  deliberate attempt to confuse the viewers into thinking it’s simply the same card as Great White. We at the Yugi Boys will not let infractions like this slide. Tune in for more hard-hitting analysis about the show!

    Yugi Boys #25: Mime Control

It's time for the most JAM-packed episode of the YugiBoys Podcast yet: the duel between Yugi and Strings, Marik's most terrifying Rare Hunter! It's clear that this duel is a step above all the others we've seen, with a good structure, a difficult obstacle for Yugi, clever strategies, and a thrilling conclusion. We're also treated to the first summoning of the incredible Egyptian God, Slifer the Sky Dragon - an introduction completely BOTCHED by Mark. All orderly discourse breaks down from there as the Yugi Boys proceed to bicker about every minute detail. Battle lines are drawn, allegiances change constantly, foolish bets are made, and friendships are tested. Will our hosts revive their friendship or succumb to an infinite loop of anger? #MarkLovesJohn

Yugi Boys #24: Playing With a Parasite

An old foe from Duelist Kingdom resurfaces to challenge Joey: the dastardly Weevil Underwood. Unfortunately, the world's premiere insect duelist is back to his cheating ways, this time using a snot-nosed kid to steal Joey's deck and infect it with a parasite. Instead of reporting Weevil to commissioner Mokuba, Joey decides to duel him in a winner-take-all match. Meanwhile, Serenity meets the one and only Ash Ketchum - or does she? Will Joey scramble the eggs of Weevil's insects, or will Weevil send him to loserville?

Yugi Boys #23: The Master of Magicians

PODCAST FOUL! Kyle starts us off with his best Commissioner Mokuba impression, issuing harsh sanctions on Mark before the Yugi Boys dive into these very enchanting episodes. Yugi commits a Safety Foul as he’s lured into a trance and follows a strange clown into a trap set by one of Marik’s goons. That goon is named Arkana, a disgraced magician and Dark Magician enthusiast who commits several Fashion Fouls with his garish outfit and pointy pants. The duel is set: Dark Magician vs Darker Magician, a tense battle with Blue Energy Disks threatening to tickle the leg of either duelist at any moment. Arkana starts off with a Dueling Foul by utilizing a classic magician’s deception to rig his opening hand. Does Yugi have enough tricks (or magicians) up his sleeve to escape Arkana’s dastardly machinations?

Yugi Boys #22: The ESP Duelist

Tensions are high this week on The Yugi Boys podcast as our co-host Joey airs some dirty, behind-the-scenes laundry to kick us off. Back in Battle City, the other Joey rolls the dice against the E.S.P duelist Espa Roba, owner of everyone's favorite card: the untrappable Jinzo. Meanwhile, Commissioner Mokuba shirks his responsibilities after making a chilling discovery about Espa's supposed psychic powers. Unfortunately, signs are not pointing up for Tea in her ongoing quest to find Yugi and Joey. If only she had some sort of mobile device that would allow her to communicate with them over long distances... Alas, no such thing exists. At least she has Gramps to covertly watch over her from the bushes! #JusticeForRex

Yugi Boys #21: Yugi Vs. Rare Hunter: Battle City Begins/Up Against Exodia

The Battle City Tournament is kicking off and our adrenaline is pumping. Joey gives us some beautiful acapella riffs with his analysis of the new intro and tracks down the composer, Scott, to ask all the questions we're eager to get answered. On the streets, Bob and Dan detail some new fashion trends: these fancy new wrist watches. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Tristan keeps Serenity company with some ulterior motives, testing Joey's patience. Yugi, on the other hand, proves his friendship to Joey by dueling the Rare Hunter that took Joey's Red Eyes. Battle City Commissioner Mokuba suspects this Rare Hunter is cheating but Kaiba won't let him flex his authority. Will Yugi succumb to the unbeatable Exodia or rip him to shreds? It's time to D-D-D-D-Duel on this episode of the Yugi Boys!

Yugi Boys #20: Obelisk the Tormentor/Stalked by the Rare Hunters

We are in the midst of some truly awful episodes. However, this block DOES take us back to the show's roots: we are treated to both the return of Exodia AND the first duel monster ever played in the show, Hitotsu-Me Giant. Kaiba develops a new, high-tech computer to test the strength of his new Egyptian God card and programs it with his own powerful deck. His reputation and health are on the line in this duel, as Mokuba relentlessly reminds us. Meanwhile, Yugi and the gang get in line to pick up their brand new Kaiba Corp duel disks for the upcoming tournament (official trading cards not included). Joey is the first to use his, forced into a duel with a Rare Hunter. Sadly, he faces the wrath of Exodia and loses both his Red Eyes Black Dragon and his manhood just before Serenity’s surgery. Never fear, however: Tristan will save the Wheeler family and, perhaps, even us, from the solemn fate to which we are eternally condemned (aka, watching this show).

Yugi Boys #19: The Past Is Present/Steppin' Out

Magic powers hear our cries. Ishizu tells of Duel Monsters’ Origins; Kaiba sighs. Ishizu predicts a new tournament on the horizons. The stakes are high with the new Egyptian God cards as prizes. Tristan is seeking Serenity’s heart, sparking Joey to try and rip him apart. Tea and Yami explore the beginnings of their own love story, while little Yugi vies for wingman glory. Our nemesis this episode is a new foe named Johnny Steps. Be sure to bring your dance mats and fun decks! Finally, we bid farewell to our favorite Winged Dragon. It’s time to hop on the Yugi Boys bandwagon!

Yugi Boys #18: The Mystery Duelist

We weren't able to find Chris, but nevertheless, the Yugi Boys must go on! We will not be confined to Season 1 like other Yugioh podcasts. There is much to learn in these early episodes of Season 2. We discuss topics like levers, the conservation of energy, and space travel. We also touch on supernatural concepts like fortune tellers, mind control, and magic hats. Mark introduces a brand new segment, Yugi (with chain) faces off against Mr. Howard and we even get a lesson on counting to three from Joey and Tristan! Join us as we continue our journey through every Yugioh episode!

Yugi Boys #17: Dungeon Dice Monsters

Go! Dice Roll! As season 1 comes to a close, the show has one more curveball to throw us. Instead of Duel Monsters, our hero Yugi is tasked with learning a NEW game: Dungeon Dice Monsters. His opponent? None other than the game's creator himself, the incomparable Duke Devlin! BUT WAIT! What’s this? For the first (and last) time, a guest host joins the Yugi Boys for this monumental episode! Will EJ rise to the occasion or fall flat on his face, condemned to wearing a dog costume for a week? It’s time to DIMENSION THE DICE and find out as we bring you the season 1 finale of the Yugi Boys Podcast!

  12. 15

    Yugi Boys #16: Legendary Heroes

HEY! LISTEN! We're here to do one thing and one thing only: watch Kaiba get duped by the Big Five, trapping himself inside a video game. Never fear! Mokuba recruits Yugi and the gang to JACK IN and rescue his Big Bro. The gang encounters Niwatori chickens, thwarts Joey getting roasted like a pig, and battles Mythic Dragons in this unpredictable journey. Will they succeed in saving the day? Will Kaiba explain why he programmed his brother as a princess? Does this episode belong in the recycling bin? Jack on in and find out on this exciting episode of the Yugi Boys! LONG LIVE EARU!!!

  13. 14

Yugi Boys #15: Aftermath/The Wrath of Rebecca/Ties of Friendship

Now that Pegasus has finally been vanquished, Yugi can turn his focus to his next biggest threat: Rebecca Hawkins. She’s a feisty duelist who is determined to get her hands on a Blue Eyes White Dragon card. Wait, haven’t we seen this before? Maybe this is why Gramps feels like he’s having déjà vu. Anyway, there’s a lot to unpack here: our trip to Kaiba Land, the limits of imagination, and some lessons about the Heart of the Cards. So let’s all pour one out for Croquet and dive into this episode!

  14. 13

Yugi Boys #14: Yugi Vs. Pegasus Match of the Millennium

And now, for the climax of Yugioh Season One: The Match of the Millennium! The fate of Gramps and the Kaiba bros is on the line as Yugi is set to take on the magnanimous Maximillian Pegasus. But! More importantly, Tristan steals the show by engaging in wacky Scooby Doo-style hijinks in an attempt to save Mokuba. Of course, the main event is the duel - Pegasus quickly summons Toon World and resumes his mind-reading antics, but when Yugi counters with a strategy similar to Kaiba's, Pegasus brings them both to the Shadow Realm. The Heart of the Cards and the bonds of friendship are pushed to their limits; Will Yugi prevail? Will this duel live up to the hype? Will Croquet ever get his own spin off series? Tune in and find out...

  15. 12

Yugi Boys #13: Keith's Machination/Best of Friends Best of Duelists

Strap in; we are bringing you a double dose of Joey this episode; and I'm not just talking about our semi-colon-loving co-host! It's time for the second semifinal match: Joey versus Bandit Keith. With slots and roulette, this duel feels like quite a gamble, but Keith has an ace (or three) up his sleeve - literally! Then, in the finals, Yugi and Joey's legendary friendship is tested in a high stakes duel. Both of them need to win; they won't let you forget it. But in the end, they will always remain best friends; no matter what!

Maybe some Saturday morning cartoons will cheer them up! Pegasus regales us with the legendary tale of Funny Bunny and his record-breaking episodic run in Toon World. Even better, Kyle introduces an exciting, brand-new segment for the show. Will Kaiba believe in the heart of the cards, using his long paw of the law to defeat Pegasus and save Mokuba? Join us in Goon World to learn more..........

  18. 9

Yugi Boys #10: Face Off Part 1, 2 and 3

In these episodes, we deal with the fallout of the Brothers Paradox duel. Emotions are mixed and tempers flare as we leave some top tier episodes behind. Tea channels her inner Jimmy Neutron, Brain-Blasting the secrets of the Millennium Puzzle. Meanwhile, one of our hosts dons a deerstalker in order to investigate her work history and eligibility. Before Yugi can enter the castle, he is challenged by familiar foe. Kaiba has made a deal with Pegasus to save Mokuba's soul, but he must defeat Yugi in a duel first. Kaiba debuts his strongest monster, the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, but he runs into Yugi's ultimate defense, a Kuriboh with the Multiply magic card. Will we finally get the answer to what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

  19. 8

Yugi Boys #9: Double Trouble Duel Part 1, 2 and 3

Our co-host Kyle really gets into the spirit of the season by sharing some of his most terrifying recurring nightmares. Tristan can't decide if he should trick-or-treat as Indiana Jones or Superman as he navigates the gang through booby trap-infested caves. Best of all, we explore the intricacies of podcast etiquette and the viability of duel disks. Be sure to check your pulse because this episode is going to have your heart racing!

  22. 5

Yugi Boys #6: The Dueling Monkey/Trial by Red Eyes/Evil Spirit of the Ring

Spirits are down this week on Yugi Boys. The old Tristan has been permanently banished to the discard pile, leaving co-host Joey's state of enlightenment crumbling. Meanwhile, Mark is reduced to popping off at the mere sight of his favorite cards - pitiful. Joey Wheeler and Rex "The Dino Duelist" Raptor prove that it's possible to have no winners in a battle of wits. Bakura from School even spoils a fun camping trip with the evils of the Shadow Realm.
