Some of today's top storiesWe're learning Nikki Haley is set to drop out of the race for president. That now leaves Donald Trump as the last major Republican candidate vying for the White House.This news is according to three people with direct knowledge of Haley's decision. Haley is expected to formally suspend her campaign in a speech at 7 a.m. Haley argued that she was a fresh alternative to the former president and that it was time to move past the “chaos” of the Trump era. Haley's candidacy was slow to attract support. But Haley ultimately outlasted other high-profile candidates, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence. Coming up at 6 -- we will speak with our political analysts to discuss what this means for the 2024 presidential election, in what is now expected to be a Trump and Biden rematch.This now gives Trump a clear path to the general election. He won by a landslide in the California primary....leading with 79 percent of the votes counted so far. Haley lost in every state on Super Tuesday... except for Vermont. As for president Biden... it was a clean sweep on Super Tuesday... including here in California. As you can see... he leads with 89 percent of the votes counted so far in the Golden StateAnd we're waking up after the biggest election day on the primary calender. 16 states -- including California -- along with one U.S. territory, participated in Super Tuesday. And this morning.... we're one step close to finding out who will be running for Kevin McCarthy's old congressonal seat in November. It's a race we've been following closely for months. 17's Jenny Huh joins us now with the latest updateTaking you out live to Washington this morning...and you can see the U-S Capitol through the fog. The big question this morning -- who will replace the late California Senator Dianne Feinstein? It appears it will be a battle between democrat congressman Adam Schiff... against Republican and former baseball star Steve GarveyWe turn now to results from the state assembly. In District 32, the incumbent is actually encouraging his constituents to vote for someone else.Bakersfield Assemblyman Vince Fong is technically running unopposed... The other three candidates you see on your screen are write-in candidates. You see zeros on your screen because it's a longer process to start counting for write-in votes. Fong has urged voters to back Bakersfield city councilman Ken Weir. This all comes after Fong jumped into the 20th congressional race after the filing deadline, setting off a chain reaction that saw Weir jump into the assembly race.
