2/28 Florida Weather 6 PM: Rip Current Statement

from The Florida Weather Podcast

Good evening. Florida. I'm Aaron Jolly. A cold front is draped across the middle of the state right now. and it's splitting Florida into two completely different evenings. North of it, skies are clearing. South of it, storms are still firing. In the next 24 hours. Let's talk about who needs to pay attention. South Florida sees the most action tonight. A marginal severe risk stretches from Palm Beach to Lake Okeechobee. Strong winds, small hail, maybe even an isolated spin up. Highs hit 80 degrees today with storms tapering off after 8 P.M. Lows settle near 70. Tomorrow brings another round of scattered storms with highs near 78. Keep your weather app handy. Slide up to Tampa Bay. Showers and thunderstorms popped this afternoon with highs around 76 degrees. Any lingering shower chance fades before 7 P.M. Lows dip to 59. Sunday? Mostly sunny and a gorgeous 79. Central Florida sat right under the front all day. Mostly cloudy, high near 74 degrees, maybe a stray shower. Tonight clears out with lows near 58. Sunday opens up to sunshine and 77. Now up north, you're already winning. High pressure is muscling in from the north. Partly sunny today, 66 degrees, northeast winds gusting to 17 miles an hour. Tonight, lows drop to 51 with patchy fog developing after 5 A.M. Once that burns off Sunday morning, you're looking at sunny skies and 71 degrees. That's a postcard day. Quick heads up for Panhandle beachgoers. Dangerous rip currents from Walton to Gulf County through tonight. Stay out of that water. Looking ahead, that front fizzles by Monday. Then temperatures actually climb. By midweek, inland spots could push into the mid 80s with breezy onshore winds and scattered afternoon showers. We're gaining almost two minutes of daylight every day now. Spring equinox is just 20 days out. Charge your phone tonight. South Florida. You might need those storm alerts before sunrise. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
