“Life is good when you make money.” – Nitin Shakdher In this episode of the Invest In You Podcast, Fredrik chats with Nitin Shakdher, the Founder and CEO of Green Capital, about investments. For almost 20 years, Nitin has been helping individuals and institutions growing their investments. He shares with us how he manages to stay at the top of his game despite the stress his work brings. Discover how he finds time to bond with his family every night, in addition to the overseas trips he makes on almost every quarter of the year. Nitin also lets you in some if his trading and investing philosophies which has been proven to have helped him.KEY TAKEAWAYS Nitin has been an investor since 1998 – investing in equity markets. He says investing can be easy as long as you are in control and you know what you want to do at some point in time. This also gives you the benefit of enjoying other things in life, as well. What does Nitin do when he’s not working? Nitin plays golf and reads a lot of books. He sees to it that he’s always updated of what’s happening around him. He also enjoys walking around the cities when it’s good weather. Nitin sees to it that he makes time for his family. When he goes home to see them, he makes sure that there should be no work that will get in the way of their family bonding. Nitin, not only works with individuals but also institutions. He works with a variety of people – from business entrepreneurs to sports stars to fashion designers. When it comes to investments, these professionals are still not clear of what to do so Nitin is there to guide them. A lot of investors prioritize emotional IQ rather than financial IQ. Financial investors have to be emotionally stable. You don’t have to equip yourself with all the financial knowledge to succeed. Nitin’s #1 Rule on trading: Do a risk assessment so if it comes to the point that it doesn’t work, you’re able to hold your position for 7-8 years. Always think that it is a long-term investment. Nitin’s perfect office doesn’t involve fanciness and intricacies. He’s okay with just his laptop, WiFi with high-speed internet, and maybe a drink on his hand at the beach. Nitin’s insights on Blockchain and cryptocurrencies in India: cryptocurrencies will not necessarily replace physical cash in the near future. Blockchain as a technology can be adapted in the future. BEST MOMENTS “Like all family men, it’s very tough to balance certain things because sometimes, in the evening, your mind is in different space and your family demands attention… I try to switch it on and off. I don’t take too much work or stress home. It’s good to have it well-balanced and to open your world to different things.” “Sometimes, investment professionals and the people in the finance industry get very involved with the whole attribute of the whole space and what happens. Then, we stopped realizing that there are other things to life as well.” “You need to be disciplined, you need to be emotionally strong, you need to look at the larger picture, you should be willing to risk your capital, and you should know what you are doing at all times.” “It’s easy to look at good times… everyone thinks it’s a party, and everyone enjoys it, but you have to be a good investor to stick to the bad times. And you can’t be a great investor if you haven’t seen crashes in the market.” “It’s important to travel once every 2-3 months because when you travel, you come out from your own individual work perspective and you look at the world with a different perspective.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Family Office Club Green Capital ABOUT THE GUEST Nitin Shakder is a professional investor and the Founder & CEO at Green Capital, a private capital investments firm and a multi-family office.
