9 Hidden Struggles of Living Abroad

from Coffee o'clock Podcast · host Burcu Onaranel

If you have never lived in another country, you might be wondering what it could look like, how it would feel, or you are most likely admiring that life abroad away from your home country. Visiting another country, moving to somewhere you have never been, exploring, meeting new people, learning a different culture, eating, drinking.. All these sound fun at the beginning or when you are ONLY a tourist in a country but what happens when you start LIVING there as a LOCAL? Over the past 10 years I have lived in 3 countries besides my home country. I'm from Turkey and I have lived in Poland, The United States of America, and now I have been living in Hungary for about a year. In this episode, I wanted to share some unseen struggles of living abroad. I wanted to show you that it is not always shiny and happy when you are away from your roots. I have identified 9 key experiences that transformed the initially amazing feeling of living abroad into a challenging, almost demanding one. If you are planning to move and start living in another country, you might want to keep these 9 components in mind and not feel discouraged or disappointed in yourself. Don't forget to share it with your people. :) If you like what you hear, follow me for more inspiration and life tips on YouTube and Medium.com. Thank you for leaving me a review as well. :)
