Thank you, Beth Kurland for joining me on The Born To Talk Radio Show.

Meet Beth.

Beth Kurland, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, TedX and public speaker, mind-body coach, and author of four books. Her newest book is You Don’t Have to Change to Change Everything: Six Ways to Shift Your Vantage Point, Stop Striving for Happy, and Find True Well-Being.

She is also the author of three award-winning books: Dancing on the Tightrope, The Transformative Power of Ten Minutes, An Eight Week Guide to Reducing Stress and Cultivating Well-Being; and Gifts of the Rain Puddle.

In her latest book, Beth helps people understand the benefits of shifting your vantage point, that you can stop striving for happy and instead focus on finding true well-being. Beth will be sharing the six vantage points to shift to when difficult emotions arise are.

Beth’s Takeaways.

“As a clinical psychologist who actively sees patients, I can tell you that we have a happiness problem in our culture and it is making many of us—well, unhappy. There is an unspoken myth that somehow, we ‘should’ be happy, at least much of the time.  As if happiness is the holy grail or gold standard upon which we determine the value of our life. The problem is that when we don’t feel happy, we often feel like we are falling short in some way.  Or perhaps, that there is something wrong, or even that there is something wrong with us.”

“I wrote my most recent book, You Don’t Have to Change to Change Everything, to help people understand the benefits of shifting your vantage point–that you can stop striving for happy and instead focus on finding true well-being.”

The six vantage points to shift to when difficult emotions arise are:

The Anchor View: Finding Stable Ground

The Child View: Curiosity Is Your Superpower

The Audience View: Learn to Zoom Out

The Compassionate Parent View: How to Become Your Own Ally

The Mirror View: Your Strengths and Imperfections Are Welcome Here

The Ocean View: We’re All in This Together

In closing.

You’ll hear more about each of these.  Being aware from each of these six vantage points allows us to cultivate inner stability, greater awareness of our internal strengths and inner resources, interconnection with the world around us and, perhaps most importantly, self-compassion.

Tune in to hear how you can focus on finding your true well-being.

Conversations + Connections = Community
