After a near-death experience, Peter was faced with the greatest challenge of all.  Namley, living a life in severe physical, emotional, and spiritual pain and anxiety. The former dancer soon discovered that the anger, frustration, and anxiety that he felt, because of his injuries, were not only keeping him in pain.  Instead, they were waiting to teach him the greatest gifts of his life. Convergence Healing.     This is a amazing, proven 10-point process. Peter explains noninvasive, life-altering practices to help you permanently heal your mind, body, and spirit. His process to heal chronic pain is without prescription medicine.         Peter has also written 2 other books that he spoke about on the podcast.    Read more here.       Peter’s Takeaways. “You can heal!  When we heal on all levels of our being, we can create a healing plan for ourselves that is doable and actionable. Every pain, whether it is physical, mental, or spiritual, must be addressed on all of those levels. A broken bone needs to be healed physically AND mentally in the mind.” “A broken heart needs to be healed emotionally on the spirit/energetic level AND in our physical bodies. To neglect any part of the healing process is to neglect ourselves and to force the problem into other parts of our lives.” “Someone newly sober and not drinking, must address the “emptiness” they feel physically and not fill that emptiness with cigarettes or sugar. They must give their body a new way to process the pain that the addiction was hiding and they must address the wound in their heart that was caused by the drinking…not to forget the wound that potentially prompted the drinking.” In Closing. Above all, Peter has helped thousands of people overcome pain and the fearful shadow it has cast over their lives. As a result, he helps his clients to live a life to their full potential.  While at the same time, by integrating the lessons of pain, including  physical, mental, and spiritual lessons into balanced living. Lastly, Peter will share his process of doing so. This includes his process for “Steps for Creating the Life You Want.” Thank you Peter for sharing your story with us.  Conversations + Connections = Community Making the world a better place.  One Story at a time.  What’s Your Story? Evan Hart

My guest today on The Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast is Evan Hart.  Evan is a music teacher and Handbell Choir director at Highland Hall Waldorf School in Northridge, CA. He is a composer, also a founding member of an Alternative LA Rock Band, Stage 11. Meet Evan. Born into a musical family, Evan began playing drums at age five and was soon gigging with his father in the Santa Barbara area. As a teenager, he formed a rock band with friends and performed original music at venues across California’s Central Coast. Evan is a founding member of the alt-rock band STAGE 11 and currently performs in three additional bands. He has also played in the pit for numerous musicals and contributed his skills as a session drummer, film composer, and audio engineer.  Evan brings over 30 years of experience in music, drumming, and percussion to his teaching. In doing so, he helps students discover how fun and expressive playing music can be. His students learn the basics of Western music theory while also developing active listening and collaboration skills. Handbell Choir Director. In Evan’s middle school and high school classes, students who often have no experience playing music learn the fundamentals; melody, harmony, rhythm, and especially teamwork. He brings over 30 years of experience in music, drumming, and percussion to his teaching, helping students discover how fun and expressive playing music can be. His students learn the basics of Western music theory while also developing active listening and collaboration skills. Evan’s Takeaways. “Music and sound designs are forms of storytelling. As a composer, I don’t have to be a wordsmith to contribute meaningfully to a story. And if a composer or sound designer has done their job well, most people won’t necessarily notice because they will be so enveloped by the story. I encourage people every once in a while to mindfully notice the music in movies, TV shows, and video games. Listen to how it builds tension, punctuates the moment, and brings the story to life. As a teacher, I encourage people who have trouble expressing themselves in words to try music. You don’t need to start with an expensive instrument or formal lessons, although that can help later on. Play around with any instrument you can get your hands on, stay curious and explore. You might surprise yourself.” In Closing. Evan’s inspiration comes from a lifetime surrounded by music—classic rock, Motown, funk, R&B, jazz, breakbeats, and classical—often making music alongside his father. From an early age, music was an essential language for expression. Today, he thrives in exploring deep grooves and experimental sounds, always seeking new ways to tell stories through music. Wendy is the author of Youth Leaving Foster Care: A Developmental, Relationship-Based Approach to Practice 2011. Her latest book is Before Their Crimes Before Their Crimes: What We’re Misunderstanding about Childhood Trauma, Youth Crime, and the Path to Healing.  In this  ground-breaking book, Wendy sheds new light on the relationship of childhood trauma and juvenile crime. She uses the framework of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to explain how the toxic stress of early childhood trauma can make children vulnerable to committing criminal acts. Wendy draws from interviews with twenty men and women from across the racial and social divide who spent years in prison after committing serious crimes as children. Not only does she reveal the pernicious mechanisms that link early trauma to later crime, but also illuminates the potential for healing among even the most egregious offenders. Wendy’s Takeaways. “We forget how intense childhood is, and how everything that happens—the good and the bad—affects children deeply.  Traumatic experience can be completely derailing for kids who are alone with trying to understand or recover from it.  But if there is a trusted adult to process even the most distressing events with, children are able to heal and move forward in their lives.” Thank you for sharing your story with us, Wendy!!!    Conversations + Connections = Community Making the world a better place.  One Story at a time.  What’s Your Story? Mike Reesé

Meet Mike Reesé Mike Reesé is a very accomplished man.  He is a Los Angeles-based artist, 7× Cannes Lions–awarded art director, and cultural organizer. Raised in Mid-City Los Angeles, Mike began sharing his art at 14—customizing shoes, designing t-shirts, and selling his work to classmates. He later studied Communication Arts at Otis College of Art & Design. Mike’s fine art works utilize archetypes and semiotics to explore and build new contexts of visual language through storytelling. The works’ narratives surface from tension, harmony, joy, pain, fantasy, and brut-reality. Mike uses sculptural painting techniques alongside principles of color field and expressionism to build the form and color of this works. Mike is the co-founder Dreamhaus a 501(c)(3) arts non-profit that has provided internships, creative programming, and immersive experiences to students and emerging creatives since 2014. He also serves as the Art Director and partner for Dom Kennedy’s The OpM Company, an independent record label. DREAMHAUS. The Dreamhaus mission: to mobilize visual arts for artists and low-income youth in South LA. Dreamhaus provides artists a platform to express themselves and give back to the community. Dreamhaus prizes innovation and creativity in the arts and its education. With its growing team of three members, the organization aims to be a pioneering force in South LA by hosting events, programs, and workshops that uplift the arts and spark social change. They host workshops and interships with youth of all ages to crystalize moments that explore personal identity.  And at the same time, to empower the creative maker inside every individual. Mike’s Takeaways. “If you have a vision, may you also find the courage to follow it. In life, courage has the power to shape one’s sense of purpose, which isn’t always discovered by chance, but built intentionally, brick by brick, through effort, faith, and deep self-reflection. In the end, legacy isn’t defined by what you accomplish alone, but by how generously you show up for others—just as someone once showed up for you. Real power lies in the commitment to empowering others to define life and purpose on their own terms.” Tune in to hear Mike’s story! Beth Kurland

Joining me on  The Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast, is Beth Kurland. Meet Beth Kurland.  Beth Kurland, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, mind-body coach, and author of four award winning books and a public speaker.  With a passion for and expertise in mindfulness and mind-body strategies, Beth brings over three decades of experience to help people cultivate the whole person with health and wellness.  Beth offers 1:1 coaching and group classes.  She helps busy professionals, caregivers, high achievers and soul-seeking individuals to learn practical tools. This includes reducing stress, cultivate deep well-being, and uncover the version of themselves that life is waking them up to.  Beth is passionate about helping people understand about the mind-body connection.  In doing so they will learn to access their inner toolkit to discover that they don’t need to fix . At the same time to change themselves to awaken the power of inner transformation. Beth’s Latest Book. In You Don’t Have to Change to Change Everything, readers learn that instead of forcing themselves to feel “happy” this results in pushing away what is unpleasant.  Instead of getting hooked by intense emotions, another path can lead to more profound well-being. Rather than trying to change one’s inner experiences, this book offers six ways to shift one’s vantage point when difficult emotions arise. Being aware from each of these six vantage points allows readers to cultivate inner stability, willingness to turn toward rather than away from themselves, greater perspective, internal strengths and inner resources, self-compassion, connection with the “Whole Self” versus identification with “hole self,” and interconnection with the world around them. Beth’s Takeaways. “Our autonomic nervous system underlies everything we do. We have survival circuits that get activated when we experience “threat” (e.g., various forms of stress) and put us in states of protection (e.g., fight, flight or freeze).  We also have “thriving circuits” that we can learn to activate more often in our lives, that help us feel safe and connected, balanced and regulated. Mind-body tools and practices help us to regulate our nervous system so we can be more flexible and resilient in our daily lives.  From here we can thrive and flourish.  In my experience, change comes about most powerfully not by finding what is wrong and trying to fix it, but by finding what is right (what is working) and trying to strengthen it.” In Closing. “Instead of focusing on what we can subtract, change or get rid of especially when it comes to more difficult emotions, something I have found more helpful is to focus on what we can ADD into the equation. When we invite acceptance, self-compassion, awareness, gratitude and other such qualities to sit side-by-side our more difficult emotions, we experience greater ease.”   Tune in to hear Beth’s story! Samuel Jay Keyser

My guest on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast is Samuel Jay Keyser. Meet Samuel Jay Keyser. Samuel Jay Keyser is an American theoretical linguist who is an authority on the history and structure of the English language and on linguistic approaches to literary criticism.  In 1962, Samuel received his PhD in linguistics from Yale.  And, he is also the former Associate Provost at MIT. Samuel, also known as “Jay” has authored numerous books and scientific publications and is Editor-in-chief of the journal Linguistic Inquiry.  He is also a jazz trombone player.  His new book, Play It Again Sam  Repetition in the Arts, was recently published by MIT Press. Play it Again, Sam   Repetition in the Arts To begin with, in his book, Jay explores in detail the way repetition works in poetry, music, and painting. For example,  he argues that the same cognitive function underlies both how poets write rhyme in metrical verse.  For instance, this also includes the way songwriters like Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart constructed their iconic melodies. Furthermore, the repetition found in these tunes can also be found in such classical compositions as Mozart’s Rondo alla Turca and his German Dances, as well as in galant music in general.  According to Jay, artists have exploited repetition throughout the ages. The reason why is straightforward: the brain finds the detection of repetition innately pleasurable. Play It Again, Sam offers experimental evidence to support this claim. Turning Turtle: A Memoir of a Man Who Would “Never Walk Again.”   In his Memoir,  Turning Turtle  Jay tells us about his story that changed his life in the blink of instant, he suffered a medical catastrophe. His story is one of extraordinary performance by EMTs, doctors, nurses, and physical therapists, allowing him to overcome a high likelihood of lifetime paralysis. The good news, he has fully recover and is no longer paralzyed. Jay’s Takeaways. “I’m fascinated by the way repetition works in the “sister arts” of music, poetry, and painting.  Repetition has been prominent in the arts, from the Homeric epics to present-day.  The reason artists have exploited repetition through the ages is straightforward: the brain finds the detection of repetition innately pleasurable.  Realizing that repetition plays a central role in the joy we receive from art will forever change the way we experience culture.” In Closing. Lynn Cooley, is the Dean of the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the Graduate School Alumni Association.  She has announced the 2025 Wilbur Cross Medalists.  The Wilbur Cross Medal is named in honor of former Graduate School Dean and Governor of Connecticut Wilbur Lucius Cross.  It was established in 1966 to honor alumni of Yale Graduate School for outstanding achievements like those of Dean Cross during his multifaceted career. Medalists are nominated by their peers in recognition of their achievements as leaders in their respective fields, true innovators, and world-changing thinkers. They are among the best examples of what can be accomplished with a doctoral degree after leaving Yale. This is the highest honor that the Graduate School bestows on its alumni. Michael Levy

Meet Michael Levy. Michael Levy is an author, philosopher, poet and lecturer.  He has authored  17 inspirational books that lead the readers to an open door to authentic prosperity. Michael’s poetry, essays and investigative journalism enhance many web sites, newspapers, journals and magazines throughout the world. He is a prominent speaker on health/wellness maintenance, stress eradication, wealth creation/development, true joy and inspirational poetry. Michael Levy grew up simply in a poor neighborhood of North Manchester, England. He left school at sixteen, started his own business at nineteen with $100 and was married with two children before he turned twenty-one. He retired successfully from the business world at forty-six and went to live in Florida. After six years, of asking profound questions inwardly, he woke up one day and started writing the answers. After retiring early in life Michael asked himself this question: “Are You choosing Your Thoughts or Do You Allow Your Thoughts To Choose You?” Well Well Well   Well Well Well, is a groundbreaking book on healthy eating, meaningful thinking and authentic living. The first section deals with food and nutrition. This includes many useful ideas on how to stay healthy and active throughout a lifetime on earth. Health is a choice and this book gives plenty of authentic choices. The second part of the book turns the microscope on the way we humans process our thoughts. And at the same time, how are the ways they can destroy via ignorance or invigorate our lives in a meaningful way via inner truth and wisdom. The third part of the book helps people to obtain full value for the time they have been gifted.  For time is our most precious asset, we need to spend it wisely. The last part of the book is an excellent guide to mediation via metaphysical spiritual poetry.   Cutting Truths     Has anyone taken you for a ride and lost you money? Has anyone given you stress and made you sick? If you could buy eye glasses that would let you cut through peoples talk so that you could see if they were telling you the truth, would you buy them? Well, Michael Levy’s new book cannot work miracles; however, it does cut the misty confusion of fallacies and myths that pose as the truth. They say pre armed is pre warned.  Are you ready to look in the mirror and face your logic and reasoning to find out how valid it is? If so, open the first page and walk the road least traveled…The road that leads to truth. Michael’s Takeaways. “I guess when I was born I got a smack on the bottom to make me cry and I must have instinctively thought, nobody will possess the power to make me cry again when I mature into an adult. Many have tried to ridicule and insult me throughout my 80 years on earth, few have succeeded. I trust my answers today to deep searching questions. By doing so it will give you time to contemplate and comprehend who it is that controls of your thoughts.” In Closing. Leeshai Lemish

Thank you Leeshai Lemish for joining me on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet Leeshai. Leeshai has been with Shen Yun Performing Arts for 19 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chinese history and language from Pomona College, in California. Then he received his master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Leeshai has spent extended periods studying, working, and conducting research throughout East Asia.  He has authored articles on Chinese current affairs in both English and Chinese. Leeshai joined Shen Yun Performing Arts as a Master of Ceremonies when the company was founded in 2006, and has since emceed close to two thousand performances with the company. He has taken the stage with Shen Yun at prestigious theaters such as Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center, the London Coliseum, Tokyo Opera City, and many others worldwide. You can also follow Leeshai on his podcast. Shen Yun Performing Arts.    Shen Yun is a non-profit performing arts and entertainment company based in the United States. They are known for their elaborate dance and music performances rooted in traditional Chinese culture. It was founded in 2006 by a group of Chinese artists connected to the Falun Gong spiritual movement. Shen Yun aims to revive traditional Chinese culture, often described as “China before communism,” through its performances. The company tours internationally, but its performances are not permitted in China.  Shen Yun’s performances feature classical Chinese dance, orchestral music, and storytelling. They depict traditional Chinese myths, legends, and historical events. The company emphasizes themes of virtue, harmony, and the connection between humanity and the divine.  Leeshai’s Takeaways. “I think we could all use more experiences that uplift and inspire us. I’m fortunate in that I get to watch Shen Yun perform night after night, see the dancers flying through the air, listen to the magical music, and feel the energy in the hall. One of my favorite things to do after a show is walk through the lobby and see how radiant and joyful everyone seems leaving the theater.” “In a way, it’s surprising that a performance of traditional Chinese culture resonates so deeply with people wherever we are. But I think it’s because what Shen Yun brings to life on stage, through showing China before communism, are the culture’s traditional virtues—courage, loyalty, compassion, integrity, faith, hope—and these are obviously not just Chinese, they are something we all have in common deep inside. And in the case of Shen Yun, the performers on stage aren’t acting or pretending. They’re actually spiritual seekers who, through their practice, strive to live by these virtues in daily life and that’s why they come across as so joyful and genuine.” In Closing. Each performance consists of about 20 pieces, quickly moving from one legend, region, or dynasty to the next. Themes range from the delicate elegance of Tang court ladies to the battlefield heroics of valiant generals, from the timeless philosophical works of Lao-Tzu to spectacular scenes of heavenly realms… transporting you to a magical world. If you would like to see their performances here is the link to their schedule. To begin with, Heidi grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.  She holds a BA in Communications from Chapman University.  She has been involved with many organizations helping animals and educating the public for the last 30 plus years.  They include: Director of Volunteer Programs for Los Angeles Animal Services Founder and Executive Director of KidsnPets Director of Pals2Pets. Heidi joined Los Angeles World Airports in 2008.  She is the Public Information Director for the volunteer section in Guest Services. Heidi developed, created and began the PetsUnstressingPassengers aka the PUP program in April of 2013 to alleviate stress and anxieties at airports.  The program’s goal is to enhance the passenger experience at LAX by providing comfort and support through therapy dogs.  The program allows an opportunity to provide an overall enhanced customer experience by providing stress relief and comfort to passengers through the interaction with pets. She has assisted 91 airports nationwide and internationally to start a program.  Her dream is for all airports to have a program. The PUP Program. There are over 80 therapy dogs.  Most of their dogs are rescues and they come from all over the place. The dogs are different ages, breeds and sizes.  Dogs have to pass a certification through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs before joining. The dogs in red Pet Me vests and handlers in red shirts with the PUP logo are an excellent addition to the customer service team. Passengers love seeing warm, wet noses and wagging tails that create a friendly, “PAWSitive” experience at LAX! Program  Overview. As traveling can create stress and anxieties at airports, the LAX Pets Unstressing Passengers (PUP) program is an opportunity to provide an overall enhanced customer experience, providing stress relief and comfort to passengers through interaction with pets. The dogs and handlers roam the departures levels in the gate areas of each terminal. They visit passengers awaiting flights and providing comfort, as well as airport information. Certification and Training. PUP volunteers wishing to apply must have at least one year experience working with a recognized dog therapy organization. The dogs must be privately owned and be at least two years old. All PUP volunteers and dogs must be registered with Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a national organization that registers, insures and supports members who are involved in volunteer animal-assisted activities. These activities include visits to hospitals, special needs centers, schools, nursing homes and for the first time for Alliance of Therapy Dogs – airports. Each volunteer goes through an initial meet and greet and walk-through with their dog to make sure there is a good fit for both volunteer and dog. Next step is in-terminal training to learn about LAX and how to assist passengers. In addition, handlers are fingerprinted and badged. They are part of the Pets Unstressing Passengers program — or the PUP Program — and what they offer travelers is something rare: calm. Heidi’s Takeaways. You will learn the difference between a Service Dogs,  Emotional Support Animals, and Therapy dogs.  You will hear about the role that pet therapy plays in the world now.  As well as, what it takes to be a therapy dog. Peter Bedard

Thank you Peter Bedard for joining me again on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast.  Peter is a Clinical  Hypnotherapist, Author & Speaker. He developed a process 21 years ago called Convergence Healing.   The timing of our conversation is perfect because May is Mental Health Awareness Month.  Did you know that Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May in the United States since 1949?  The month is observed with media, local events, and film screenings. Meet Peter Bedard. Peter has a MA in Consciousness Studies and has extensive training in hynotherapy and alternative health.  He has consulted for corporations, universities, and municipalities locally and globally. Through his expertise working with people suffering with anxiety and addiction, Peter has developed a tried-and-true process for creating your own blueprint for wellbeing, Convergence Healing.  In doing so, he can help people deal with stress and pain.  This includes physical, emotional and spiritual concerns. Convergence Healing. Throughout his personal healing process Peter discovered the power of holistic therapies. With this understanding he has created a thriving one-on-one private practice, workshops, and talks.  Millions of people suffer from some form of chronic pain (whether it be physical, emotional, or existential), and this discomfort silently drains too many of us of our highest potential and our power. Living in a state of unending pain pushes people to the margins of their own lives.  Thus it robs them of direct access to their most authentic, essential, worthy selves. Pain, ironically, renders too many beautiful voices mute.  It cripples the body and stagnets the mind, leaving too many dancing souls lost. In this case, nobody knows this better than Peter Bedard.     Convergence Healing, Healing Pain with Energetic Love, is a wonderful compliment to Peter’s in-person workshops and private sessions. It outlines the steps of his self-proven, unique healing program and the subsequent creative process for reclaiming your health and your life.  He has an amazing, proven, 10-point plan that explains noninvasive, life-altering practices to help you permanently heal your mind, body, and spirit. Peter’s Takeaways. Peter’s own near-death expereince and other compelling stories and case studies, and his book, Convergence Healing offers a whole new body-mind spirit paradigm for those interested in living a balanced well-integrated, and pain-free life.   He references this quote by Rumi,  “The cure for pain is in the pain.”  It suggests that true healing comes from facing and understanding the source of one’s suffereing.  Rather than trying to avoid or suppress it.  By actively engaging with the pain, one can uncover lessons and insights that lead to growth and self-awareness.    I love how Peter ended our conversation with these impactful words of wisdom: You are whole. You are perfect.  You are complete.  Conversations + Connections = Community Making the world a better place. One Story at a time. What’s Your Story? I want to share it! Helen Sheehy

Thank you Helen Sheehy for joining me on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet Helen Sheehy. Helen Sheehy grew up on tenant farms in Oklahoma and Kansas. She’s worked as a dramaturg at Hartford Stage Company. In 1996 she wrote  Eva Le Gallienne: A Biography. In 2003 she wrote Elenora Duse: A Biography. Lastly, she wrote, Margo: The Life and Theatre of Margo Jones.  The latter two books were named New York Times notable books of the year. Currently, Helen lives in Hamden, Connecticut. She also taught theatre and acting at Southern Connecticut State University for more than two decades. After spending years writing non-fiction, she has turned to her earliest love, telling stories.  Just Willa is her first novel, that just released on April 13, 2025. Just Willa.     We meet Willa Hardesty in 1964, while she’s burning trash in a barrel and thinking “this is hell.” Angry and frustrated, she finds some items she had long forgotten, and remembers that she had once been happy. In the ensuing chapters Willa’s life unfolds like a tapestry, beginning in 1927 when she’s eleven, about to accompany her mother on a train ride from Oklahoma to Missouri.   Helen’s Takeaways. “In my debut novel, Just Willa, I try to capture the essence of rural America. It spans seven decades of one woman’s life, taking us from the Dust Bowl to the Depression, from Roosevelt to Reagan. The heroine of my novel, Willa Hardesty, was inspired by my mother. It gives us a character of indomitable spirit.  She is the daughter of a homesteader who survives the trials of single motherhood and goes on to marry a bootlegging cowboy. He fuels and anchors her family with love and bravery.” In Closing. Just Willa shows us a world filled with people and struggles both realistic and relatable–a world that is beautiful, despite its hardships. Sarah Cavallaro

Thank you Sarah Cavallaro for joining me on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet Sarah Cavallaro. Sarah Cavallaro is the Founder, President, and Executive Producer of Emerald Films.  She has built a distinguished career spanning 25 years in international TV commercial production. Renowned for her sharp instincts in talent development and project curation, she has successfully led Emerald Films to become a highly acclaimed production company. Sarah is also an award-winning author. Her indie-published novel, Dogs Have Angels Too, won an Indie Reader Discovery Award for Best in Women’s Fiction in 2013. Sarah is also the Co-Director, Ex. Producer and Co-Founder of the non-profit Art Above Ground. Dogs Have Angels Too.   About the book.  In the dog-eat-dog world of recessionary New York City, the irrepressible Miss Pink leads a pack of down-on-their-luck women.  They ultimately find hope in the most unlikely of places: an overcrowded animal shelter. This is where unwanted pets are routinely abandoned to their grim fates. Miss Pink, a former marketing executive and divorcée who’s intermittently homeless herself, makes it her mission to find homes for a growing bevy of cuddly canines. Her “adoption walks” bring her to meet a series of fellow New Yorkers.  All of whom are struggling with their own personal and financial crises. In other words, they are all uniquely ripe for recruitment in Miss Pink’s master plan. Which she’s devising on the fly, by the seat of her favorite pink pants!   Sarah’s Takeaways. “It all started when writing the first paragraph on my first novel, Dogs Have Angels Too.  I became hooked into Miss Pink’s journey. It was similar to mine. I had to make a choice and after all those years I closed the TV Commercial part of the company. I wrote and wrote and wrote. Completing two novels to date, a screenplay, several stage plays, and a TV pilot.” “To witness growth and create growth is essential for my balance. It hasn’t always been like that. I had to learn through the echo of a wise adage ‘when the student is ready the teacher shows up.’  My teachers come in many forms.” In Closing. “If you were sitting across from me and would ask me about myself, I would say I am the sum of my experiences and my experiences are branches and leaves of universal experiences. Universal experiences are twigs of spiritual/energetic experiences and on and on to the point that we and our stories are connected in some way, whether we know it or not.” Sarah will tell you, “Never give up on yourself.”    Tune in to hear her story. Kimberly Lau is the visionary founder of Project ReWear, a pre-loved children’s clothing boutique helping parents save money and the planet.  Kimberly’s initiative is redefining the future of fashion by making sustainable, high-quality children’s clothing both accessible and affordable for modern families. Meet Kimberly Lau. As a single mom of two boys, Kimberly has experienced firsthand the challenges of kids outgrowing clothes at lightning speed.  This often leads to excessive waste and financial inefficiencies. But instead of just seeing a problem, she saw a market opportunity: a scalable, sustainability-focused business that helps families rethink how they shop. Kimberly has a backgound in wealth management.  Her heart is rooted in responsible living.   She was inspired to create Project ReWear after realizing the environmental toll of fast fashion.  This holds true  especially in children’s apparel. By doing so, she is showing that responsible fashion for children can be both enjoyable and affordable, while making a positive impact. Project ReWear. Since launching in Thousand Oaks, CA, Project ReWear has saved over 800 pounds of clothing from landfills through its curated selection of pre-loved outfits for kids. They are more than a boutique.  It’s a movement supporting families in making mindful, cost-conscious choices that honor the planet. Project ReWear handpicks and purchases high-quality, preloved children’s clothing from thrift stores. Then they create a stylish and sustainable shopping experience for all ages. Each piece is selected for its quality and design, making it possible for parents to find affordable, unique outfits without compromising on style or sustainability.     Project ReWear is raising funds for the SoCal wildfire victims with their #LAStrong campaign.  Their limited-edition, pre-loved items feature artwork inspired by the retro blue VW camper van that miraculously survived the Palisades fire and became a beacon of hope for so many. #LAStrong exemplifies how entrepreneurs can merge philanthropy with business success, ensuring that impact continues long after the headlines fade. Kimberly’s Takeaways. “Through Project ReWear, I hope to inspire families to embrace sustainability in an approachable way, knowing they can save money, support their community, and protect the planet all at once. Whether it’s through our landfill-saving efforts, the #LAStrong collection, or our curated preloved outfits, we’re here to show that fashion can be a force for good.” In Closing. Kayoko Mitsumatsu

Kayoko Mitsumatsu, is the Founder and Executive Director of Yoga Gives Back.  Thank you for joining me again, Kayoko on the Born to Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet Kayoko Mitsumatsu. Prior to moving to the US in 1992, Kayoko was a producer/director for NHK Japan’s National Public Broadcaster. She worked on primetime current affairs and documentary television programs.  Kayoko also served as cultural attaché at the Embassy of Japan in London. Her passion for documentary filmmaking is rooted in the perspective gained from years of living abroad including Australia, Brazil, United Kingdom and USA. Kayoko now uses her skills to film and produce YGB FILMS to share YGB’s fund recipients’ real stories with the global yoga community. “In 2006, as I began to learn yoga asana and philosophy, it hit me very hard that I needed to use all my capacity to help others.  Especially the underserved women and children in India, motherland of YOGA. I was benefitting so much from the daily practice of Yoga, I had to give back. I shared this idea with my yoga teacher and the studio manager who all supported the idea. That’s how Yoga Gives Back was born with our mantra — For the cost of one yoga class, you can change a life.” Yoga Gives Back. Yoga Gives Back, founded in 2007, is a global nonprofit spanning over 30 countries empowering more than 3,000 women and children with micro-loan and education programs annually.    They unite thousands of practitioners, spiritual leaders, donors, and corporate partners.  In doing so they are transforming their collective gratitude to support vital programs for women and children in India. Thanks to Kayoko, in the last eighteen years, Yoga Gives Back has spread globally with 150 Ambassadors who are yoga teachers sharing YGB’s mission with their communities as well as raising funds with their events. They have also created a community of dedicated volunteers and partnering sponsors whose annual contribution also tremendously helps their mission. Kayoko’s Takeaways. “Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory. This is a quote from Mahatma Gandhi which I hold it to my heart and try to live by every day: “When things do not go the way you wanted, you can still see it as your full victory if you have put full effort in it. By focusing on your effort of your action or decision of the present moment, you do not get anxious or stressed out about the result in the future.  You have no control over it anyway. There is a real power in recognizing the present effort. This is the most important, top priority, than spending time calculating or worrying about the outcome. This is the most empowering guidance in my life.” In Closing.   Please join me in supporting Yoga Gives Back.  Your support can transform lives.  At Yoga Gives Back, they are dedicated to empowering women and children in India by channeling the global yoga community’s gratitude into meaningful action. Gregory Leeson

Thank you  Gregory Leeson for joining me on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet Gregory. Hailing from the picturesque shores of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gregory Leeson boasts a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Western Ontario. In 2015, while donning the mantle of Master of Ceremonies at his 40th high school reunion, an electric spark ignited his passion for the life stories of seemingly “ordinary” individuals. On May 1, 2022, he embarked on the first of four monumental road trips from his Illinois home covering 26,403 miles to 53 cities in 39 states and eight Canadian provinces. Following these exhilarating journeys, he returned home on June 8, 2023, ready to transform the vivid tapestry of stories he had collected into the book he had envisioned since that fateful night in 2015. Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives.     This is not a history book.  As you read the stories, you might reflect on your life mirrors as part of the storyteller’s life.  Greg breaks down his book into sections.  First was meeting and interviewing random people on his road trip. The second section features the opinions of 52 anonymous Americans, they range from all age groups, races, political persuasions and geographic areas.  The third section showcases 66 concise mini-biographies of remarkable individuals who contributed to this project. These narratives are crafted for quick and captivating reading.   Greg’s Takeaways. “We live in a divided world. That much is obvious. But what if you got to know someone’s life story who you instinctively just KNOW is not aligned with your thinking. Would the words of one of the world’s leading authorities in narrative psychology, Dr. Dan McAdams, ring true? He wrote: “People find common ground through storytelling. Leeson shows us, for it is nearly impossible to dismiss, let alone hate, another person once you have come to know their story.” “In addition to my storytelling, if there is a second reason to purchase my book, it is Appendix A.  McAdams allowed me to publish his life interview protocol. This gem, is nothing short of life transforming.”   In Closing. Greg, will be sharing his own personal story about his mother and himself.  You will hear how he was able to convince the people he met on his journey to share their stories with him. In listening, you might find yourself relating to a story he shares. And, to top it off, he is on the road as we speak!  You are also going to hear from Latifa. Greg is at her home and has interviewed her.  She too, has an amazing story about living in Morocco as a child, and moving to the US. GC Brown

Thank you GC Brown for joining me on the Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet GC. GC Brown aka as Gregory C. Brown, is an award winning author. He has just released his latest book Sniff. He is also the Co-Founder of a new company, UpCup Koffee, launching soon. GC Brown was good at making money but played fast and loose with his income taxes.  He was eventually charged with tax offenses, i.e. tax evasion, failure to file taxes on time and wire fraud. Remarkably, despite being a felon who’s just finished serving 16 years in multiple federal facilities, GC believes this sentence was the best thing to ever happen to him. He was never one to shy away from a challenge. While he was serving the federal prison term, he read a newspaper article that said writing a novel is the third hardest thing to do. That’s when he picked up a pen. That was in 2014. He hasn’t stopped writing since. Sniff.     SNIFF is an action-adventure story about antihero David Liecht. He worked his way to the top of the commercial real estate world, only to lose everything while finding love…and then teeter on the brink of losing that too.   UpCup Koffee. UpCup Koffee is a functional mushroom coffee containing Lion’s Maine mushrooms and Shilajit additives.  “More Life in Every Cup.” The health benefits of their additives are well documented and are quite remarkable.  They feel that the synergistic effect of their additives is even greater.  You will be hearing about the power of mushrooms. This is a photo of a Lion’s Mane mushroom, it feeds your brain. According to science, NAD plays a pivotal role in cellular metabolism and is a co-substrate for enzymes that play key roles in pathways that modify aging. GC’s Takeaways. “I believe words can be used to create conflict or inspire change; they can cut deep or make you laugh. I choose to laugh, and some people think I’m a riot. But I don’t expect everyone to be a fan. This is art, baby, and I’m not here to follow the rules. I love writing. It’s a passion I discovered while in federal prison. And maybe I ruffle a few feathers along the way, and maybe I don’t. Truthfully, I hope you stick around.” In Closing. GC has led a life style that most of us can not imagine. He definitely has a story to share. Wait until you hear what he used to write on, since paper was not available. As he continued to write with a pencil, he hasn’t really changed to “modern day” writing.  Except, now he uses a pen to paper, neither were available while serving time.   Conversations + Connections = Community Making the world a better place. Joel has been a Realtor® for over 11 years, serving the Los Angeles and Coachella Valley areas. He became a member with Home for a Home in 2015 and currently serves as the Executive Director.  Before becoming a Realtor®, Joel earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Boston University. He went on to work as a Graphic Designer and Art Director for various publishers and within the government. The change in careers came from wanting to work with people in a direct and personal way. Home for a Home.   Home for a Home, founded in 2012, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization driven by the belief that a safe, solid home can be the catalyst to dramatic and positive change in people’s lives.  Their mission is building better futures, one home at a time. They do so by providing housing and support for the underserved families in Guatemala to empower them to break free from the cycle of poverty. Why Guatemala? Over 1 million people live below the poverty line. 52% of the country’s population lives on less than $2.00 a day.  3.5 million people do not have access to clean water and basic sanitation.  Over 1 million people live in inadequate housing with dirt floors. Of these, many live in huts with plastic or metal roofs and corn stalks for walls.  They have the worst air quality in Central America.  That’s where Home for a Home has stepped in to make a difference. Home for a Home solutions include:  Building earthquake safe homes made of concrete block and rebar with concrete floors that are secure and warm. They also reduce parasitic infestations.  Because most families do not have running water, flushing toilets is another problem. Home for a Home has come up with alternative solutions. They are also using water filters for safe drinkable water, reducing bacteria by almost 100%. Now homes are being built with clean burning stoves designed specifically for Guatemalan cooking styles. Joel’s Takeaways. “Home” can mean so many different things, from family, pride and dignity, to community, safety, and more. That’s what I love about Home for a Home. For what many of us view as not much money, we can make a lasting impact on entire family for generations to come.” “When we take a moment to reflect on the world we live in and that we want to leave behind, I believe helping others is at the top of most people’s list. We have the opportunity to make an impact on people. This can be whether it’s  next door to someone we may never meet in a place we may never visit.” “I am so proud to be a part of Home for a Home, knowing that we are working to make this a world a better place.  What does “home” mean to you?” In Closing. Currently, they have funded projects for 547 families.  Building better futures, one home at a time. Would you like to help? You can Donate now. Tune in to hear Joel’s inspiring story! John Berger

Thank you John Berger, Ph.D. for joining me on The Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet John Berger. John J. Berger is an environmental science and policy specialist, prize-winning author, and journalist. John is a graduate of Stanford and the University of California.  He has written and edited 11 books, including three previous books on climate change. He has also written over 100 articles on climate change and transitioning to clean energy. Solving the Climate Crisis. Solving the Climate Crisis is a hopeful and critical resource that makes a convincing and detailed case that there is a path forward to save our environment. In his book he harnesses the power of committed individuals and the necessity for collaborative government and private-sector to take action. His book focuses on three essential areas: The technological dimension: This includes moving to 100% clean renewable energy as fast as we possibly can. In doing so through innovations like clean-steel, “green” cement, and carbon-reuse companies. The ecological dimension: To enhance and protect natural ecosystems, forests, and agricultural lands. And to safely store greenhouse gases and restore soils. Thus, transforming how we grow, process, and consume food. The social dimension: Update and create new laws, and policies.  Including economic measures to recenter human values and reduce environmental and social injustice. John’s Takeaways. “My new book, is about how to address this seemingly overwhelming challenge.  It has some good tidings—some rays of hope. Replacing the fossil fuel system on which we now rely for almost 80 percent of our energy is possible and it can be done in a timely manner with a sustainable clean-energy system that will be akin to a heart transplant for the economy. The newly invigorated, modernized clean-energy economy will produce tens of millions of new jobs and save trillions of dollars, even as it avoids tens or hundreds of trillions of dollars or more in climate damage. Protecting the climate is thus potentially the greatest economic opportunity of our time. My book describes the work of climate savers’ whose progress in their pursuit of this enterprise is cause for hope and inspiration.” In Closing. John’s mission is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to a clean-energy economy, and build a sustainable and resilient future for generations to come. “Together, we can work toward solutions to climate change to build a greener and brighter future” Conversations + Connections = Community Making the world a better place.  One Story at a time.  What’s Your Story? They guide and motivate Black orchestral percussionists to realize their full potential. The Mentorship Program will boost national percussion audition rosters with exceptional Black candidates. They will be prepared, well-trained, and strong contenders for any orchestral position across America. This national program provides one-on-one instruction and direction for Black symphonic percussionists.  Guidance is provided by selected mentor-percussionists in the field.  Besides instruction, the program includes a variety of opportunities such as master classes, workshops, community involvement, recitals, and concert tickets. ABOP is determined to increase the number, as well as raise the performance level, of Black percussionists. In addition, they are preparing them to audition for universities/conservatories, and eventually, orchestra positions. Raynor’s Takeaways. “I have been blessed with an amazing career in classical music.  I held my “dream job” as Principal Percussionist with the LA Phil for 33 years.  However, as a performer and educator, I always noted the lack of diversity on and off stage. After retiring from the LA Phil, I decided to initiate something that had never been done. I helped create a nationwide mentorship program that guides and empowers young Black percussionists to a career in symphonic music.” In Closing. Robert Feldman

Thank you Robert Feldman for joining me on The Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast. Meet Robert. Robert Feldman is the CEO, President and Co-Founder of WOWS Insurance Services.  They are designed to deliver insurance solutions for large homes that struggle to secure insurance in California. Robert has been an insurance professional with nearly 25 years of experience. His specialty is insurance in fire zones and hard to place risks. As an industry professional, Robert has served as a speaker at the California Association of Realtors. Robert travels the state educating realtors about how to secure insurance for homes that are deemed uninsurable. He also serves on many task forces and insurance panels, working directly with senior leadership of many insurance carriers to solve the state’s current insurance crisis.  Robert has pioneered innovative solutions to provide comprehensive coverage for large homes struggling to secure insurance in a wildfire-prone state. Consequently, his work continues to shape the future of California’s insurance landscape. WOWS The changes in the fire insurance industry and the challenges the insurance companies are facing have increased over the course of the last 10 years. As a result, these changes created the opportunity to change how homes are insured. This is why WOWS Insurance Services was founded and why they have created their product.  Basically, WOWS has created the blueprint for how the industry will evolve and succeed going forward.  Robert’s Takeaways. “Todays’s Fire Insurance Crisis.”  US home insurance rates are up nearly 38% since 2019 & the percentage of Americans without homeowners insurance has more than doubled in the last 5 years.  Yet today’s fire insurance crisis is not due to anything new. It started 10 years ago & has been escalating the entire time.  It’s an ideal example of Einstein’s theory of insanity: doing the same thing over & over and expecting a different result. Instead, it just becomes more so.  That’s why insurance companies are now cutting back & pulling out of markets where they can no longer afford to sustain significant losses. The fire risk landscape is constantly evolving. And the insurance industry needs to change with it.” Tune in to learn more! There is an unspoken myth that somehow, we ‘should’ be happy, at least much of the time.  As if happiness is the holy grail or gold standard upon which we determine the value of our life. The problem is that when we don’t feel happy, we often feel like we are falling short in some way.  Or perhaps, that there is something wrong, or even that there is something wrong with us.” “I wrote my most recent book, You Don’t Have to Change to Change Everything, to help people understand the benefits of shifting your vantage point–that you can stop striving for happy and instead focus on finding true well-being.” The six vantage points to shift to when difficult emotions arise are: The Anchor View: Finding Stable Ground The Child View: Curiosity Is Your Superpower The Audience View: Learn to Zoom Out The Compassionate Parent View: How to Become Your Own Ally The Mirror View: Your Strengths and Imperfections Are Welcome Here The Ocean View: We’re All in This Together In closing. Meet Sam Adels.  Sam Adels is the Co-Director | Beacon Educator & Program Manager | Youth Leadership | Development at Land to Learn. Sam fell in love with gardening after years of being asked to help out in the family garden. Sam teaches through hands-on, experiential education, and enjoys encouraging kids to explore and connect to the world around them. Asa result, Sam hopes of inspiring future generations of eco-literate stewards. Meet Dana DeSousa. Dana DeSousa is the Co-Director | SproutEd Chair | Newburgh Educator | Outreach Chair at Land to Learn. She grew up exploring different ecosystems both in NY state and Puerto Rico where her extended family lived. Dreams of becoming a marine biologist led her to the University of Delaware to study Wildlife Conservation. In addition, Dana researched leatherback sea turtles in the US and Virgin Islands.  She studied Environmental Science in grad school. Dana discovered her passion is for education of the natural world. This led to a number of years teaching local communities about the environment and how they could be stewards of the Earth at Greenburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale, New York. Gardening has been a part of her life since a young age due to the influence of her maternal grandmother.  Consequently, combining the love of education and personal gardening led to her current position at Land to Learn. Dana enjoys sharing culture and the joy of growing your own food with anyone she meets. She hopes to continue to connect the community to growing food and empower students to educate others while learning about food justice in their classrooms. Land to Learn. To start with, Land to Learn’s work is rooted in gardening, food, community, health, and ecology. We hope that our conversation will remind individuals that there are many ways for students to learn.  Outdoor education can be extremely impactful to a child’s whole body health. Academic success, social-emotional skills, nutrition & health along with environmental awareness are at the center of our practice to educate our students. In doing so, we hope that this can be shared with more students throughout the country.” In Closing. Thank you Lissa Warren for joining me on The Born To Talk Radio Show Podcast.  Lissa Warren has been a literary publicist for more than 25 years. Since 2003, Lissa has been an Adjunct Professor at Emerson College, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses as part of their Writing, Literature, and Publishing program and creating their Book Publicity course.  She launched her own company in 2019, which specializes in publicty for books and authors. Lissa’s Books. Lissa is the author of The Savvy Author’s Guide to Book Publicity and a memoir, The Good Luck Cat: How a Cat Saved a Family and a Family Saved a Cat.       The Savvy Author’s Guide to Book Publicity covers everything from how to write press material, targeting the right shows and publications, following up effectively with the media, and hiring people who can help ensure that every bookseller and consumer has a chance to hear an author’s message loud and clear.             The Good Luck Cat enchants, captivates, and takes the breath away (but in a good omen-kind-of way). A strong recommend for those who love cats, for those who love history and literature about cats, and for those who love a powerful story told well. Lissa’s Takeaways. “If you’ve ever thought about writing a book, I encourage you to learn all you can about the publishing business before jumping in. And it is indeed that–a business. Yes, there’s art to writing, and an art to editing, and an art to designing books. But as someone who has worked in the book industry for thirty years and as someone who has published two books herself, I can tell you that publishing is more business than art.  Authors who don’t go into it with eyes wide open often have a tough go of it.” “Writing is an art, publishing is a business–and a complicated, convoluted one at that. Educate yourself. Seek advice from other authors. Find good professionals to guide you–literary agents, editors, cover designers, and people who know how to market and publicize books. And not just any kind of book. Your kind of book–your category, your genre.” In Closing.
