(Physics) with first-class from the Shivaji University, Kolhapur,  and Ph.D. in Physics (nanobiotechnology) with a gold medal from the D.Y.Patil University, Kolhapur investigating the magnetic nanosystem for cancer hyperthermia treatment. Dr. Thorat is the recipient of various prestigious international fellowships including Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship in the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship in Japan (2017), PBC-Outstanding Fellowship, Israel (2016) and also worked as Senior Research Fellow at Samsung Biomedical Research Institute, South Korea (2014-2015).
