County Board Chair Tryggestad on $10M opioid settlement, $1 marijuana fines and road funding
from WIZM - La Crosse Talk Interviews · host WIZM News Staff
La Crosse County Board chair Tina Tryggestad in studio reviewing the September meeting, including $1 marijuana possession fines, $10 million opioid settlement funds, selling the 111 acres of county farmland, and road funding. We started the show discussing the 2026 budget before moving into the marijuana ordinance change process. The county board will review the change over two meetings and is likely to vote on the $1 fine for 25 grams or less in October. Regarding the opioid settlement money, Tryggestad mentioned that the county has received approximately $2.5 million, with an expected total of about $10 million over the next 10 years. The funds are earmarked for education, prevention, and support programs. We also recapped some news about the county farmland and when it might eventually go back on the market — though the board approved some acreage for the Village of West Salem for a new public safety building. Another recap was the Hillview Healthcare Center, which we have discussed previously. Between that, we discussed whether the county might contribute to a possible indoor pool collaboration between the city and school district, and we addressed road funding. Tryggestad noted that federal and state contributions could be unpredictable moving forward.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
