Creating Your Vision is more than pretty pictures

from Living Life with Wendy · host Wendy Easton Bouwman

Have you tried using a vision board or whiteboard to help you focus on your goals? They can be helpful tools for visualizing what you want to achieve, but if you're not acting towards achieving those goals, they might not be as effective as you'd like. One reason this might be the case is if you don't have a specific plan in place for how to achieve your goals. Simply creating a vision board or whiteboard and looking at it every day isn't going to make your goals magically come true. It's important to have a clear and detailed plan for how you will work towards your goals and take consistent action towards achieving them. This may include setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals, identifying the steps you need to take to achieve those goals, and setting deadlines for when you want to achieve each step. Another reason why vision boards and whiteboards may not be as effective as you'd like is if you're not holding yourself accountable. It can be easy to get sidetracked or lose motivation when working towards a long-term goal. Having an accountability partner or a coach can help keep you on track and provide support and guidance as you work towards your goals. This could involve setting regular check-ins to review your progress and discuss any challenges or obstacles you may be facing. So let’s get into a little more detail here: 1.  Define your goals clearly: Think about what you want to achieve in 2023. What do you want to accomplish personally, professionally, or in other areas of your life? Make sure your goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). 2.  Break your goals down into smaller steps: Once you have your goals defined, break them down into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make it easier to focus on what you need to do each day or week to move closer to your goals. 3.  Set deadlines: Assign deadlines to each step in your plan. This will help you stay on track and ensure that you're making progress towards your goals. 4.  Identify any resources or support you may need: Think about what resources or support you may need to achieve your goals. This could include things like education, training, financial resources, or support from friends and family. 5.  Create a schedule: Once you have your goals and steps defined, create a schedule that outlines when you'll work on each step. This will help you stay organized and ensure that you're making consistent progress towards your goals. 6.  Review and revise your plan regularly: It's important to review and revise your plan regularly to make sure you're on track to achieve your goals. This will allow you to make any necessary adjustments to your plan and stay focused on what you want to accomplish.
