Decluttering as a work from home mom

from Motherhood Simplified · host Krista Lockwood

Decluttering as a Work-from-Home MomHey there, mama! If you’re a work-from-home mom, you know the juggle is real. You’re managing work responsibilities, raising kids, and keeping a household running—all in the same space. It’s both rewarding and incredibly challenging. So today, let’s talk about how decluttering can help make your life easier and more enjoyable while you navigate this unique role. Why Decluttering as a Work-from-Home Mom Is DifferentWorking from home has its perks: flexibility, being close to your kids, and getting to work in comfy clothes. But it also comes with some serious challenges. The lines between work and home blur, and it’s easy to feel like you’re drowning in to-do lists—both work-related and household tasks. Add clutter to the mix, and it’s a recipe for overwhelm. Here’s the thing: decluttering as a work-from-home mom is about creating a space that works for you. It’s about carving out room to think, work, and live without feeling like you’re constantly surrounded by chaos. My Own Work-from-Home Mom JourneyLet me be real for a second: working from home has been the hardest role for me as a mom… and also the one I love the most. I’ve experienced it all—from working with no childcare and juggling multiple roles at once, to having a structured setup where I had clear boundaries. There was a time when I worked from home while pregnant, with my older kids at school. That setup was easier because I could work uninterrupted during the day. But when my babies were home? Whew! That was a whole different story. It felt like I was being pulled in every direction—mom mode, work mode, and home mode—all at once.Tips for Decluttering as a Work-from-Home MomHere’s what I’ve learned about making decluttering work when you’re managing both a career and a household:1. Schedule Decluttering TimeTreat decluttering like a work meeting. Block out time on your calendar and stick to it. Even just 15-30 minutes can make a big difference.2. Compartmentalize Your TimeWhen you’re working, focus on work. When you’re decluttering, focus on decluttering. It’s easy to get distracted by household tasks during work hours, but creating clear boundaries helps you stay productive.3. Start with Small ProjectsAs a work-from-home mom, your time is precious. Focus on small, manageable decluttering tasks—like clearing one drawer or organizing a single shelf. These quick wins add up and keep you motivated.4. Use Donation PickupsThis is a game-changer. Schedule a donation pickup so you can declutter without the extra step of driving items to a drop-off location. Just set your items out on the porch and let them take care of it.5. Delegate TasksYou don’t have to do it all. Ask your kids to help out, delegate tasks to your spouse, or even hire someone to assist with the decluttering process. You’re already wearing so many hats—it’s okay to ask for help.6. Have a PlanA solid decluttering plan is key. My course, Decluttering Simplified, is perfect for this. It’s flexible enough to fit into your busy life and provides a clear roadmap for tackling clutter step by step. The Emotional Side of DeclutteringDecluttering isn’t just about clearing physical space; it’s also about creating mental space. When your home is clutter-free, it’s easier to focus on work and enjoy time with your family. Plus, letting go of things you no longer need can be surprisingly freeing. The Best Part of Working from HomeDespite the challenges, working from home is an incredible opportunity. You get to show your kids what it looks like to work hard,...
