THE MOST DIFFICULT TEMPTATION TO TAME
from Latitude Church
Deuteronomy 8:6-11, 14 “So keep the commands of the Lord your God by walking in His ways and fearing Him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams of water, springs, and deep water sources, flowing in both valleys and hills; a land of wheat, barley, vines, figs, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey; a land where you will eat food without shortage, where you will lack nothing; a land whose rocks are iron and from whose hills you will mine copper. When you eat and are full, you will praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you. “Be careful that you don’t forget the Lord your God by failing to keep His command — the ordinances and statutes — I am giving you today. “be careful that your heart doesn’t become proud and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.” Message Title: THE MOST DIFFICULT TEMPTATION TO TAME. James 3:3-12 “Now when we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we also guide the whole animal. And consider ships: Though very large and driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So too, though the tongue is a small part of the body, it boasts great things. Consider how large a forest a small fire ignites. And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among the parts of our bodies. It pollutes the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is set on fire by hell. Every sea creature, reptile, bird, or animal is tamed and has been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. We praise our Lord and Father with it, and we curse men who are made in God’s likeness with it. Praising and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers, these things should not be this way. Does a spring pour out sweet and bitter water from the same opening? Can a fig tree produce olives, my brothers, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a saltwater spring yield fresh water.” 6 questions we must ask?#1: is it Truthful? Matthew 5:37- "All you need to say is simply "yes" or "no", anything beyond this comes from the evil one.""If you were not there, and all you're getting is here say, then don't say anything!"#2: is it Offensive? Ephesians 5:19- "speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music to the Lord, in your heart."#3: is it Negative? Ephesians 4:29- "let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths..." Proverbs 18:7- "A fools mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul."#4: is it Giving? Luke 21:15- "for I will give you such words and a wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict."#5: is it Ugly? James 3:10- "Praise and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers, this should not be. "Ephesians 5:4- "And coarse and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks."Matthew 5:18- "But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart!"#6: is it Edifying? Ephesians 4:29- "No rotten talk should come from your mouth, but only what is good for the building up of someone in need, in order to give grace to those who hear."Filter, Filter, Filter!!!!!T. O.
