Dr Brent Anderson Part 1 - Movement as a spiritual experience & the creation of Polestar Pilates Int

from Embodied with Anthea Bell · host Anthea Bell

Welcome beautiful listeners to this week's episode of Finding Your Way Home. What an episode we have for you - not 1, but 1 of 2. Let me take you back... Five years ago, I came across a movement school that would utterly revolutionise my understanding of the body, functionality, healing and my role as "teacher".  Polestar Pilates; an international education company founded in 1992, now championing pilates and functional movement in over 60 countries worldwide. This week I had the joy of sitting down with its Founder and CEO, Dr Brent Anderson (PT, PhD, OCS, NCPT); physical therapist, orthopaedic certified specialist and leader in the field of Pilates. In his over 30 years of practice, Dr Brent has studied from some of the best in the field; first- and second-generation Pilates teachers including Eve Gentry, Carola Trier, Ron Fletcher, Romana Kryzanowska, Kathy Grant, Lolita San Miguel, Mary Bowen, Jean-Claude West, and Alan Herdman. He has, of course, more strings to his bow - University lecturer, author, consultant and faith leader in his local community in North Carolina. As we hear, it took some time to realise that it was his very same ethic, values and innate human worthiness that carried into each and every role.  One hat; one humbled man working with a collective of inspiring others. In this beautiful 2-part interview, we dive deep into the heart of the man many of you will know professionally, but not personally: his vision for the organisation he spearheads; his experiences of navigating physical pain; what collaboration and connection mean to him; and how going deep into the darkness of his inner self gave him his most profound realisations.  He also shares his strongest guidance for anyone studying movement, or navigating injury / identity shift.  If there was ever an episode that epitomised the connection between mind, body and spirit, THIS IS IT.  I know you'll adore listening. And make sure to stay tuned for Part 2, released Monday - the story only gets richer the further we go...And of course, let us know what you love, what you'd love to hear more of - this is for you, so please rate, review and share with anyone you'd love to hear his story. Every single contribution from you allows these speakers to reach more lives.Should you want to experience more of Dr Brent directly.... https://polestarpilates.com/brent-anderson/  Copies of his highly acclaimed book can be found here - https://principlesofmovementbook.com/ And for anyone in the US, something very special this May 2024 - the chance to join Dr Brent and Franklin Method Founder Eric Franklin in an intimate 4-day retreat at Brent's home. Together they'll be combining rich movement education with the restorative, rehabilitative magic that is Franklin Method.
