from Voices of Women Physicians · host Tatyana Reznik MD, FACP

Alison Curfman, MD, MBA is a pediatric emergency physician and healthcare strategist who’s built clinical models and led companies at the intersection of innovation and impact. After launching her first startup inside a private equity firm, she became founding Chief Medical Officer of Imagine Pediatrics, a value-based medical group for medically complex children on Medicaid. Under her leadership, the company grew to 300+ employees, serving over 35,000 patients and reaching a multi-9-figure valuation in less than two years. Alison now leads Startup Physicians, a platform designed to help physicians apply their clinical expertise beyond the bedside as advisors, operators, founders, and investors. She advises early-stage companies and funds on clinical strategy, go-to-market planning, and physician engagement. Her mission: empower physicians, especially women, to reclaim their creativity, autonomy, and leadership by stepping into healthcare innovation. She believes that doctors are not leaving medicine, they're redefining it. Some of the topics we discussed were: What makes Dr. Curfman a good founderThe skills Dr. Curfman gained by working at a private equity firm and providing her clinical knowledgeCo-founding Imagine Pediatrics, the value-based medical group for children with medical complexityHow Imagine Pediatrics immediately launched with 20,000 patientsStartup on steroids: going from 3 co-founders to about 300,000 employees in 18 monthsHow Imagine Pediatrics has far-reaching impacts and currently serves about 40,000 high-needs kids on MedicaidHow their company focuses on keeping kids out of the hospital and getting them the resources they needReaching a multi-9-figure valuation in just a couple years by saving costs through a mission-driven business modelHow being open-minded led Dr. Curfman to learn the core elements of any businessHow to systematically de-risk a concept before launching a businessBuilding an incubator program for physician-founded conceptsAdvice for people who want to launch their own startup but don’t know where to beginHow to start developing your own idea And more! Learn more about me or schedule a FREE coaching call:https://www.joyfulsuccessliving.com/ Join the Voices of Women Physicians Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/190596326343825/ Connect with Dr. Curfman: Website:www.alisoncurfmanmd.com Startup Physicians Podcast: Apple Podcasts Spotify LinkedIn:Alison-Curfman-MD-MBA
