Ep 45 - A Kid in a Candy Store

from Searching for McGuffin · host S4M Media

In this episode of Searching for McGuffin; George, Dan, Gabe, and Link, discuss the amount of content, media, food, and options around us. Lately the internet seems to drown us in new stuff everyday; and while that can be a good thing, it has become extremely overwhelming to be surrounded by so much. New content is coming out faster than ever and from all places. It's becoming increasingly hard to navigate all these options. I pitched this to the group because I had become overwhelmed with keeping up with brand new content for the podcast. In the pitch, I used the analogy of us, the consumers, being kids in a candy store. Candy is great but if you leave a kid to his own accords, then he'll over do it, eat too much, and get sick. Candy is great in moderation, but its up to us, the consumers, to take in this media at a pace that works for us instead of the pace that works for those creating it. - The Producer Additionally, thank you to all those who supported us in the month of June. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
