He played college football for the University of Oregon and received All-American honors. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Barner won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots , and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
