Zach Rhoads speaks with Travis Lupick, a journalist and coordinating editor of Vancouver B.C.'s The Georgia Straight. Lupick tells the moving story of a grassroots group of citizens living in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside in the 1990's and 2000's. These citizens-- all active drug users-- engaged in a political fight, in response to a growing number of drug-related deaths, demanding they be afforded the same rights to health as all other citizens. Travis Lupick's book, Fighting For Space, recounts the roller-coaster-like series of events that took place as these-- once-isolated-- members of the community made an unprecedented social and political transformation in their favor.  Best of all, Travis Lupick offers insight about what we, in the United States can learn from the story, namely: how to save lives.  ****************************** Support The Show:  Donate to PayPal: http://paypal.me/ZRhoads Sign up for your free audiobook @ Audible    Check out "The Social Exchange" Facebook Page   Follow Zach on twitter  ****************************** Get YOUR copy of Fighting For Space here   Follow Travis Lupick on social media:  On twitter On Facebook   Check out Travis' Live U.S. events June 15 - Boston June 18 - New York City June 24 - Philadelphia June 27 - Baltimore June 29 - Washington DC July 02 - Raleigh, NC   ******************************** Life Process Program:  If you, or someone you know, struggles with addiction and you'd like help, go to The Life Process Program  -- you will find everything you need to become educated and get started, including a free, anonymous, 20-minute consultation with a well-trained addiction coach.
