Episode 15: Philip Yancey on suffering, Jonty on Cornish porter

from Beer Christianity · host Beer Christianity and Jonty Langley

Philip Yancey is a bestselling author and generally lovely chap. In this episode he discusses suffering, what we get wrong about suffering, who we are in the Job story and the most important thing to know about God's attitude to suffering: that Jesus is always on the side of the sufferer. Jonty unearthed this very old interview he'd done with Philip Yancey while in Cornwall between Christmas and New Year (Jonty was in Cornwall with his wife in 2019, not Yancey back in the day). The interview was all about suffering. And it's been a horrible year. So he did what any self-respecting podcaster would do: he found some local beers (notably one from Driftwood Spars Brewery in St Agnes) and recorded some excuses for why, on the interview, he makes so many annoying noises.  Recorded (except for the old interview) and produced at Mount Hawke, just outside St Agnes, in Cornwall, in a lovely caravan near an old copper mine. The beer that powered this episode was mostly Bolsters Blood porter by Driftwood Spars. Also our designer is on holiday. Can you tell from the artwork? He also changed water into wine. Nice.
