Episode 66: Arkteia with Robin Jones

from Blue Rain Gallery Podcast · host Blue Rain Gallery

Blue Rain Gallery proudly presents “Arkteia,” an upcoming exhibition of new paintings by Robin Jones. This remarkable showcase will adorn our gallery walls from October 27 to November 11, 2023, with an in-person artist reception on the opening night, Friday, October 27, from 5-7 p.m. “Arkteia" invites viewers to embark on a journey where art blends with advocacy, where Jones’ deep-rooted philosophy about the interconnectedness of all living things is given vibrant expression. Paying homage to the series’ ancient namesake, Arkteia presents captivating portraits of modern-day arktoi, pre-adolescent girls coexisting alongside animals and serving as vital links between humanity and the natural world. Robin Jones says of her contemporary arktoi, “I depict girls from all over the world, focusing on representing indigenous cultures that are suffering disproportionately from the climate crisis.” Many of Jones’ subjects are from places like Myanmar and Kenya that are experiencing the harshest effects of ongoing climate chaos. As well, the animal companions in her pieces are poignant reminders of the countless beings imperiled by humanity’s shortsighted domination of nature. Jones’ true-to-life figures are powerful, sometimes confrontational, evoking compassion, curiosity, and a desire for unity while challenging viewers to reflect on their own actions and responsibilities.
