Having our Wedding in Asia during the COVID-19 Pandemic - Ep017

from Find Me in Seattle Podcast with Conner Cayson · host Conner Cayson

It's our second week in Bangkok, Thailand and it's been a tumultuous week full of very difficult emotions. When we started planning this wedding in Thailand 18 months ago, while knowing we wanted to have our wedding here well before then. In the beginning of February, we had 120 RSVP and traveling guests expected to fly around the world to join us for our week long celebration. At the time of recording, Friday March 13th, 2020, we are down to less than half of those numbers and we expect to have more. A majority of those cancellation have happened in the past 5 days after Trump banned flights from Europe. But we remain in high spirits, we still are so unbelievably grateful for the people who have risked their health to fly across the world to join us here. In this show we talk about some of those emotions and what it's like to be the bride and have our guest list, including most bridesmaids cancel their trip. But today had some positive moments when a few guests, including both sets of parents arrived in Bangkok just in time to settle some of our nerves. Now that we have some family here, we don't feel as anxious as we once did.  Enough of the sad talk, this trip is our wedding and we need to make the best of what we can do with while we are here. So the second half of the video is dedicated to helping those of you traveling to Bangkok, with three (ok, maybe four) words/phrases that will help you communicate. Those phrases are "hello," "thank you," "yes" and "no" along with the appropriate gender identifiers which are important courtesy's in Thai language.
