Asking for help requires that one be willing to follow the instructions offered by the helper. To ask for help, one must admit you don't have the answers. Just as asking for directions, one admits they don't know where they are going. The first trait required to ask for help is courage. Despite fear, one forges on to do what must be done. This defines courage: accomplishing a task regardless of fear. The courage to change the things you can. Asking for help is step one. The innate quality or trait of courage is step one in beginning recovery. Recovery is a process.
