Jenny Liao is a Chinese -American writer born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is the author of two children's books, Everyone Loves Lunchtime but Zia and Everyone Loves Career Day but Zia. Jenny's writing has been featured in The New Yorker and Bon Appetit. We discussed how Jenny's been working to regain fluency in her mother tongue, Cantonese, through classes and practicing with a mother, how challenging it is to translate certain concepts from one tongue to the other, and how you can lose a mother tongue but never completely grieve its loss.
