Joaquim Furtado nasceu em Penamacor, em 1948. Ainda em criança mudou-se para Lisboa e começou o percurso no jornalismo aos 18 anos, na Rádio Universidade, uma das criações da Mocidade Portuguesa. Fez jornalismo numa altura em que o trabalho jornalístico ainda passava pelo crivo da censura antes de ser publicado. É dele a voz que abre o caminho para a liberdade na madrugada do dia 25 de Abril de 1974, com o primeiro comunicado oficial do Movimento das Forças Armadas, lido aos microfones Rádio Clube Português. Em 75 mudou-se para a RTP onde assumiu várias funções, desde repórter, pivot, director de informação e programas. Durante a longa carreira de jornalista acumulou vários prémios. É leitor assíduo de poesia há muitos anos e também, ficámos a saber durante esta conversa, alguém que escreve poesia até aos dias de hoje, apesar de não os partilhar com quase ninguém.
