His experience spans the state, regional, and school district levels. Mark’s passion is building sustainable and equitable systems to give people access to arts education in schools and communities.   He serves as a speaker, panelist, and guest lecturer in settings focused on arts education. Mark also consults with organizations seeking to expand or deepen their own work in arts learning.  Mark’s community involvement runs deep. We will be focusing on his current volunteer board positions with two non-profits. CREATE CA. What is CREATE CA all about? Their tagline says it all, Cultivating Creative Schools in California! They advocate for high-quality arts education for all students.  Did you know that students with an arts education included in their curriculum are 5 times less likely to drop out of school? Communities in Schools Los Angeles. Communities in Schools-Los Angeles is one of more than 150 programs across the country that is changing kids’ lives.  They are the nation’s largest and most effective dropout prevention organization that has proven to both decrease dropout rates and increase graduation rates. As an independent affiliate of Communities in Schools (CIS) their Integrated Student Supports Progam, is a nationally proven model that is comprised of 6 steps. As you can see in this photo, they integrate all the steps for success.     e of more than 150 programs across the country that is changing kids lives. As an independent affiliate of Communities In Schools (CIS), CISLA’s Integrated Student Supports Program is a nationally proven model that is comprised of 6 steps beginning with a needs assessment.  Mark’s Takeaways. Mark will share the many forms public service can take, not just elected to office.  He will reflect on the future of public education in Los Angeles and the essential role the arts can play in developing creative leaders.
