from Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie · host Ernie Lansford

“Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool… Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” — Proverbs 26:1, 12 (ESV)We’ve all worked with difficult people—but Proverbs 26 reminds us that foolishness isn’t just “out there.” Sometimes it’s in us when we resist correction. In today’s episode, I share lessons from my own leadership journey and principles from Dr. John Maxwell, as outlined in the Maxwell Leadership Bible published by Thomas Nelson, on how wisdom—not ego (edging God out)—turns conflict into an opportunity for growth.1. Use the 101% Principle – Find the 1% you agree on and give it 100% of your attention.2. Love people more than policies—but love truth more than people.3. Give others the benefit of the doubt.4. Be flexible where you can.5. Check your attitude first.6. Don’t overreact to conflict.7. View conflict as a learning opportunity.8. Provide an escape route—let them maintain dignity.9. Take a risk—give them a second chance.10. Take the high road. Be generous. Choose to believe the best in people.Customer Success Code: “Wisdom is the KPI that turns conflict into growth and difficult people into disciples.” This is a public episode.
