Michelle Dickinson: Listen to birdsong can boost wellbeing, study finds
from The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin · host Newstalk ZB
A new study has found that, even if it's just a recording, the sound of birdsong considerably boosts wellbeing. The study, published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B journal this week, built on evidence that spending time in nature has positive effects on human well-being.Adding audio speakers to two outdoor nature trails, the researchers alternated playing birdsong and turning the speakers off on each trail section in weekly blocks.Hikers were interviewed after they passed through these sections, those who heard the additional birdsong reported a greater sense of well-being than those who didn't - even though it was a recording, rather than the real thing.Nanogirl Michelle Dickinson joined Francesca Rudkin to discuss the results.LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
