from Permanent Record Podcast

Episode 115: Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party (1985) - Part 1 A few weeks ago, Sarah suggested that we discuss Oingo Boingo's amazing 1985 album "Dead Man's Party" in episode #115 as it would be released right around Halloween. That turned out to be an even better idea than she realized!  Why?  Because this episode is hitting your podcast app-of-choice exactly 35 years to the day that Boingo's fourth LP first appeared on record store shelves!  Happy Birthday, DMP!! The show starts with a discussion of how the band's multi-talented leader Danny Elfman discovered his love of and skill with music. We trace his development through his post-high school wandering days, his time in the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, the big switch over to just Oingo Boingo, and then his career in the genre of film scoring. From there, we learn about the many musicians who make up this fantastic group, the artists responsible for the quirky and attractive album cover, and we go in-depth into the four songs that appear on the record's first side. Along the way, we touch on a seemingly random Boingo/Bond connection, the first thing Brian spent his money on after moving into his college dorm, versatile character actor Neal McDonough, a song which heralded the release of the film "The Sixth Sense", and the premiere of the PRP Q&A. It's an epic Halloween installment of PRP and we hope you enjoy it!!
