The Common Good: Law and Justice This section starts with the distinction between absolute good and good of order which opens up the discussion on good as the participation in the ultimate good, and as such for mankind their is a good common to all men by nature of his being man. This further requires the distinction between: i) the common good transcendent to the world ii) the common good immanent to the world Therefore Law is the basis of order of the society, and justice is the state of law whereby things are organized in a good order. This is the basis of social ethics.
