Part 6 Ethics Chapter 38 Moral Law and Conscience Section a. Eternal Law and Moral Law This section begins with defining law as direction to end, or being bound to an end, thus the law which directs human acts is called moral law, and eternal law is the divine design which tends everything towards God. Now the moral law flows from the wisdom and will of God as provident because: i) it is in accordance with reason ii) God governs each being in accordance with its own nature iii) it is ordained to the common good. Saint Thomas defines law as: A rational ordering to the common good made by him who has the care of the community and promulgated.
