PART II : it's true, when you can say/hear you're name, the trauma of someone reNAMING you has ended.

from SMARTER THAN TRAUMA Podcast · host SMART E MC

Send us Fan MailHow many times are they going to NOT say my name? How many times does it take for their reNAMING (the most shameful horrible things---some just don't even make sense---what did you call me?) and the feeling it creates. Why I say keep pushing with what you have & what I have is my voice since my family told me always, "keep speaking," since I was really shy, now we say hesitant & rarely ever spoke & why I know the decision to be a teacher, after being asked to create a video portfolio ---oh my God---and the decision to absolutely NOT let their trauma continue so face it once. Seriously, the body needs to be taught, it'll be ok. Whatever you're RE-EXPERIENCING is theirs to hold onto & their's to keep. WHO prompted me to use my name with that memory as I'm watching something that was "odd," but now I know why it popped up later in my life, like a roadmap since the body/brain need to justify the #bullying that I am just waking up to. The strategies I've used to put it away I'll share since it is prolonged exposure therapy, just didn't know it then in the following areas. 1) nickname for self-defense class when I first moved to this neighborhood that talks about "community."2) after school reading group*3) social group created when a teacher & paraprofessional didn't want to sit down as a trio since you're pointing the finger at each other**we have a democratic vote so again, the universe sometimes align. Thank you,Jamie. P.S. Next, will be the principal using my name & the fact, I use my students' name in all my IEPs at every turn since that was a "tip" from DePaul U since the social/emotional well-being of these kids seemed to be a priority, but in fact, when it came down to it. It wasn't. P.P.S. I think I can write my name here since I wrote my name on a customer service survey yesterday & mailed it at the post office so that ONE person who may or may not listen, thank you. you let me write my name here since it's just muscle memory & all I have to choose is WHO to be around giving me all this audio/visual sensory.Support the show
