PREMIERE : Ben Prophet - Wasp
from Les Yeux Orange · host Les Yeux Orange
Ireland-born, Newcastle-based DJ/producer Ben Prophet returns with his new 3-track club EP Wasp, out 19th March via HE.SHE.THEY.. Wasp arrives as Ben tightens his grip on the UK underground. With productions firmly embedded in DJ rotations, he continues to build a catalogue of club cuts resonating across the UK and further afield. Releases including From Dusk EP on HAAi’s Radical New Theory, Heat EP on falsepersona’s Etched and standout cut ‘Transitions’ have underlined his instinct for direct, rave-charged club music. Support from HAAi, Mall Grab, Skream, VTSS and Kettama - alongside last year’s 7-date Australia tour - reflects momentum grounded in consistent output and dancefloor response. Rooted in bassline-driven rave elements yet constantly evolving, Ben Prophet’s sound channels the raw directness of UK club culture while leaning into darker, industrial textures. Crisp percussion meets mechanical tones and tightly controlled low-end pressure, shaping a style that feels focused, forceful and distinctly his own. Across three tracks, Wasp extends that approach, landing as his debut release with HE.SHE.THEY.. The EP captures the physicality of his sets - weighty and propulsive, built for heads-down moments - while retaining a sense of movement and emotional lift beneath the surface. Title track ‘Wasp’ opens with a progressive build. Layered synths and driving drums steadily intensify, locking into a peak-time framework. It stands as the EP’s most direct and climactic moment -high-pressure, forward-moving and designed to leave emotions running high. ‘Sprout’ follows with a rolling low-end groove and tightly programmed percussion. Inspired by time spent at Cork City Jazz Festival, the track threads subtle rhythmic looseness into a groove-led structure, while sharp synth phrases keep the energy in motion. It’s playful yet controlled - dynamic and designed for sustained floor impact. ‘Sky Of Love’, closing out the EP, shifts into heavier territory. Industrial-leaning drums are balanced by sweeping melodic lines and a propulsive vocal line, adding an emotive edge. Ben Prophet says: “Releasing on HST is an absolute honour. After being a fan of the night and label for such a long time, getting the opportunity to be part of such an amazing family is mind blowing. When first being approached for the label I knew which tracks would suit this home perfectly and I’m so happy it’s all come together.” With roots in Ireland’s dance scene, Ben first cut his teeth on brassy, bassline-driven cuts before gravitating towards darker, more industrial shades of electronica. Since relocating to Newcastle - one of the UK’s defining underground hubs - he has honed a sound grounded in rave energy but shaped for modern club spaces. Here, he refines that vision further: a focused body of work that strengthens an already trusted catalogue, distinctly his and built for the pressure of the floor.
