Psalm 87:1-7 - "All My Springs Are In You"

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Both the singers and the players on instruments say, "All my springs are in you."   Psalm 87 is a worship and praise Psalm that teaches us to rejoice in the foundation and the source of our salvation! Of all the places in the world, God chose Mount Zion, which is on Mount Moriah, on which the city of Jerusalem was built, to give us “His Foundation” for our great salvation. The foundation is the most important aspect of a building. On this solid foundation, we discover the “city of God”, from which we have the source of our hope and salvation. It was from and in this place that God revealed, His Word, His Son, His love, His mercy, and His grace! That is why, “Glorious things are spoken of you, O City of God!” (v. 2).   In verses 4-6, God “mentions” the names of all those “who know Me”. They include both Jews and Gentiles! They come from the north and the south, and from the east and the west! They found their “new birth” in this “City of God”. We must also be “born again” through the precious blood of Jesus Christ that was shed in this Holy Place! In John 3:1-8, Jesus made it clear that we must be “born again” if we are going to be able to see or enter into the “Kingdom of God”.   If you have truly experienced this salvation, you have reason to worship and rejoice with the singers and the players on instruments proclaiming, “All my springs are in You!”  As citizens of Zion and the children of God, the Jews and Gentiles not only live together but they sing together and play musical instruments as they rejoice in God's blessings.   Jerusalem is one of the few ancient cities that was not built near a great river, and it was always a problem to supply enough water, especially during a siege. To help solve this problem, King Hezekiah had ordered an underground water system constructed that connected the City of David to the Gihon Springs. (2 Kings 20:20; 2 Chron. 32:30).   The word translated "fountains" or "springs" refers to "living water" and not water brought up from a well. A fountain or spring symbolizes the source of something, as Jacob is the "fountain" from which the nation came (Deut. 33:28). All blessings, especially spiritual blessings, flow from the Lord who one day will return and reign in the City of David.   In Jeremiah 2:13, Jeremiah the prophet told the nation, "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns--broken cisterns that can hold no water.” I’m afraid far too many of God’s people have done the same today! We have exchanged our relationship and fellowship with the Lord Jesus to try and find happiness and satisfaction from the pleasures of the world. Money, things, success, education, fame, human relationships, or anything else will never bring us true joy and deep satisfaction.   In John 4, Jesus told the woman at the well that the water of world would never quench her thirst but if she would drink of the “living water” that He could give her, she would never thirst again! In John 7:37-38, Jesus said, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."   The last invitation of the Bible is found in Revelation 22:17, “And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.”   Can you honestly say today with the psalmist of old, “All my springs are in You”? If not, come to the “Spring of Living Water”, the Lord Jesus Christ!   God bless!
