On this evening’s show, we’ve got some birthdays to celebrate, we commemorate two who passed, and remember when radio became sponsored. Enjoy the show! Here’s the complete playlist: Segment 1: Topic Anne Lindbergh died last week at age 94. She became an accomplished aviator and was the first American woman to obtain a glider license. In 1930, she helped husband Lindbergh break the transcontinental speed record, flying from Los Angeles to New York in less than 15 hours. Here are two records commemorating Lindbergh’s Atlantic flight. Lindbergh Hop – Te Roy Williams AHO Lucky Lindy – Nat Shilkret & The Victor Orchestra / Richard Crooks, Franklyn Baur, v. Segment 2: TrailsLast week also saw the passing of Dale Evans. The “Queen of the West” starred in 38 motion pictures and two television series. She wrote 25 songs including “Happy Trails”, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans theme song. So here in honor of Dale Evans, are a couple of “trail” songs. On the Oregon Trail – The Golden Gate Orchestra The End of a Lonesome Trail – Irving Brodsky AHO / Robert Wood Segment 3: Going and Going and GoingOn February 12 in 1924 “The Eveready Hour” became radio’s first sponsored network program. The National Carbon Company took the honor of being the first sponsor of a network show. So here to commemorate “The Eveready Hour” are some songs about going and going and going. The Isle of Capri – Wingy Manone AHO Love is Just Around the Corner – Harlem Hot Shots Segment 5: Jack BennyFebruary 14 marked the birth in 1894 of Benjamin Kubelsy. You know him better as Jack Benny. So here’s Bing Crosby and Jack’s theme song, “Love in Bloom” Love in Bloom – Bing Crosby Segment 5: Wayne KingFebruary 16 marked the birth in 1901 in Savannah, Illinois of Wayne King. Known as The Waltz King, Wayne King died in Paradise Valley, Arizona at age 84. Here’s a trio of songs from Wayne King and His Orchestra.
