Here’s the complete playlist: Segment 1: Ted Weems The day after tomorrow, September 26 is what would have been Ted Weems’ 99th birthday. You’re the Cream in My Coffee – Ted Weems Climbing up the Ladder of Love – Ted Weems AHO / Dusty Roads, v. Segment 2: RugsSeptember 19 in 1876, Melville R. Bissell of Grand Rapids, MI patented the carpet sweeper. Following Melville Bissell’s untimely death in 1889, his wife Anna Bissell stepped in and confidently took control of the company, becoming America’’s first female corporate CEO.So, here, in honor of Mr. Bissell’s sweeper, are a couple of “rug” songs. Persian Rug – Louisiana Sugar Babes Rug Cutter’s Swing – Fletcher Henderson AHO Segment 3: FlashSeptember 21 in 1930, Johannes Ostermeier of Athegnenber, Germany patented the flash bulb! So here’s a bright, bright selection of songs. Electric Flashes of 1926 (Medley) – Ronnie Munro and His Dance Orchestra Brighter Than the Sun – Bert Ambrose AHO / Sam Browne, v. Well we started off this segment with flashbulbs, and of course you use flashbulbs when taking pictures, so here are a couple more “picture” songs You Ought to Be in Pictures – Richard Himber / Joey Nash, v. You Fit Into the Picture – Fats Waller and his Rhythm Segment 4: The Singing FoolSeptember 19 marked the release in 1928 of Al Jolson’s second feature film. It was titled, “The Singing Fool” and it held the record as the largest grossing motion picture for over a decade until “Gone With The Wind”. Sonny Boy – Al Jolson There’s a Rainbow Round My Shoulder – McKinney’s Cotton Pickers / Dave Wilborn, v. Segment 5: Ted Weems Ted Weems band was a Mid-West favorite all during the 1920s – 30s and ’40s. In 1929, they gained national recognition with their hit novelty song “Piccolo Pete”.
