On this evening’s show we’re being inspired by events during this past week in history, we’ve got some songs by “The Happiness Boys”, and songs about Hawaii Enjoy the show! Here’s the complete playlist: Segment 1: Clarinets Exactly one hundred eleven years ago today, Charles G. Conn of Elkhart, IN patented the metal clarinet. Here, for you to “compare and contrast”, are a couple of versions of the same song, recorded about 9 years apart, by two different bands. Why Do Hawaiians Sing Aloha – Fats Waller Sunkist Hawaii – Sam Kulua West and his Harmony Boys Hano Hano Hawaii – Sol Hoopii and Hano Hano Hawaii Beulah (My Hawaiian Dancing Queen) – Andy Iona and His Islanders Segment 4: Boy Scouts On August 21 in 1912 Arthur Eldred, a Boy Scout, became the first boy to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout — the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America program. So, here to commemorate Arthur Eldred’s achievement, is the Raymond Scott Quintette, and “A Boy Scout in Switzerland”. A Boy Scout in Switzerland – Raymond Scott Quintet Segment 5: Count Basie August 21 marked the birth in 1904 in Red Bank, NJ, of bandleader and composer William James Basie, otherwise known as “The Count”.
