Starting an NGO in Uganda with Jamie Stuart

from Expat Empire Podcast · host David McNeill

Today on the Expat Empire Podcast we will be hearing from Jamie Stuart. Following boarding schools and study abroad experiences during her studies, Jamie headed to Uganda and quickly felt at home in the community there. Partnering with her friend and the local community, she started the Hope Center in Gulu, Uganda, a grassroots community-led organization helping women and children in the area to practice art, find a safe space to meet, and find new employment opportunities. After fundraising and setting up the Hope Center, Jamie passed leadership onto her local team and moved to Berlin, Germany, where she is pursuing her interests in music technology and DJing.   In this episode, you will learn:   - How you can get your start in Uganda and in working with NGOs - Advice on raising money for your social entrepreneurship idea - Tips on finding fun jobs and study abroad opportunities around the world - How to learn languages that are not in Duolingo or other language learning apps   ...and much more! You can find out more about the Hope Center at their website hopegulu.org. Eli Hermit edited and produced the music for this episode, please check him out on Bandcamp at elihermit.bandcamp.com/.
