While a number of conditions resulted in a significant jolt for nearby residents and rumbling that was felt across the Salt Lake Valley, the 3.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred approximately 2 miles northwest of West Valley City on Friday, Feb. 13, was a “small, common earthquake” in a seismically active state, according to officials with the Utah Geologic Survey.
