Supporting Birth, Abortion, & Birthing Prisoners with Maggie Mayhem

from Wash Your Mouth Out Podcast · host moorea malatt, maggie Mayhem, madison young

Maggie Mayhem talks with Madison Young about new motherhood and her experience on both sides of birth support; her work in supporting birthing prisoners and the current state of pregnancy and birthing in prisons as well as why it can be essential for a person getting abortion to have access to full-spectrum doula support. Maggie Mayhem is a former sex worker, current birth worker, and death worker in training from San Francisco, CA. She has been involved in public health since 2003 and is an international advocate for sex worker rights and reproductive justice. As a full spectrum doula she believes in providing a supportive presence for people in the journey from womb-to-tomb and offers support for any possible outcome of fertility. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Sex Worker Outreach Project-USA; founded the health, hygiene, and harm reduction project HarmReduxSF; and is part of the leadership and training team of the Bay Area Doula Project which focuses on abortion support and access. She has spoken about sexual biometrics at South by Southwest (SxSW); debated pornography at Yale with Gail Dines; is a feminist porn award recipient; and I’ve been collaborating with this powerhouse of an activist on sex positive projects for over a decade. Maggie’s website is MaggieMayhem.com and you can follow her on Instagram as @MaggieMayhem or on Twitter as @MsMaggieMayhem.
