The Forgotten Switch and Ghost Plane

from Air Crash Chronicles · host Air Crash Chronicles

A series of high-stakes aviation emergencies unfolds, revealing how disaster can emerge from a fragile balance between machines, humans, and the environment. In one case, a silent cockpit becomes a death trap when mismanaged switches and loss of cabin pressure slowly incapacitate the crew, leaving the aircraft flying on autopilot until fuel exhaustion. In another, a wide-body jet loses all engine power after unknowingly entering a cloud of volcanic ash, yet survives through exceptional airmanship and calm decision-making under extreme conditions.Other tragedies expose how procedural oversights, poor communication, and overlooked warnings can cascade into fatal outcomes. Investigators piece together each event using flight recorders, system data, and survivor accounts, uncovering root causes that are often invisible in real time but devastating in hindsight.Across these stories, one truth remains constant: aviation safety advances through hard lessons. Improved pilot training, clearer procedures, and better use of recorded data transform past failures into safeguards, ensuring that lives lost are not forgotten—but become the foundation for safer skies. You can listen and download our episodes for free on more than 10 different platforms:https://linktr.ee/Air_Crash_ChroniclesProduced by Podcai Studio:https://www.podcaistudio.com/

Lewis's The Last Battle St. Philip's Church: Charleston, SC Come join us on Wednesday nights as we explore the riches of C.S. Lewis’s marvelous book The Last Battle, which is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is a remarkable book on multiple levels and was awarded the Carnegie Medal back in the 1950s when it was first published. The Last Battle has some themes in common with The Great Divorce and That Hideous Strength that will make it an excellent follow-up to those two books, and like them, it has some remarkable resonance with things going on in today’s culture. It is a book that is both theologically rich and poignantly beautiful in its writing, and it can help equip us to live boldly for Christ in a culture that has lost its way. (Although this book is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia, it can stand on its own and it is not necessary to have read the other books for this class.)
