We're in for a windy day on the coast today with lots of rain, potential for flooding, and elevated sneaker wave risk yet again, as swells from other storm systems join with our own local wind waves to make beach going dangerous. Rain totals will be registered in inches today...be aware of flood prone areas near you and exercise caution... leave extra time if you need to go somewhere. Watch out for tidal flooding on the northwest Oregon and southwest Washington coasts around 5 am and 6 am, prime commuting times... And of course, what day on the Ship Report recently would be complete without a little more about the Carnival Panorama cruise ship, which is now tucked away in a giant dry dock in Portland, getting her steering and propulsion system fixed. (And I promise to stop talking about this topic for awhile after today, at least until something else happens.)

Passage Throw'm In The Puget Productions 150 years ago, the S.S. Cumberland disappeared in the Pacific Northwest. A lifeboat from the ship with four skeletons inside just mysteriously showed up in Marrow Passage. Reporter Daisy Bonham attempts to solve the mystery and find out what other secrets are lurking just below the surface. Double Share Nathan Lowell | Scribl A Trader's Tale from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper: Book 4When he graduates from the Academy at Port Newmar, Ishmael Horatio Wang reports for duty in his first assignment as an officer. When he gets to his new ship, he finds things are not exactly the way he'd learned in school. The coffee tastes like used engine oil, the ship has no heart, and the nearest decent tailor is two quadrants away. What's a new Third Mate to do? Will he be able to trust Billy? Spacehounds of IPC by E. E. Smith (1890 - 1965) LibriVox When the Inter-Planetary Corporation's (IPC) crack liner “IPV Arcturus” took off on a routine flight to Mars, it turned out to be the beginning of a unexpected and long voyage. There had been too many reports of errors in ship's flight positions from the Check Stations and brilliant physicist Dr. Percival (“Steve”) Stevens is aboard the Arcturus on a fact-finding mission to find out what's really happening, and hopefully save the honor of the brave pilots of the space-liner Arcturus from the desk-jockeys' in the Check Stations implications of imprecision - the nastiest insult you could cast at a ships pilot. He and the pilots are right, it was the Check Stations that were out of position, not the ships. But that's cold consolation because before the Arcturus reaches Mars it's attacked by a small, mysterious, globe shaped spaceship. (Summary from Wikipedia) Crossing Wires S.H.
